The Oilers are taking this to the wire.  According to Mark Spector on Team 1260 this evening the Oilers brain trust is meeting with Dany Heatley in Kelowna.

Apparently the Oilers are pulling out all the stops, including having Heatley talk to his Canadian teammate Shawn Horcoff.  So the hard sell is on.

It appears that the Heatley camp was hoping for choices of teams who might have a better chance of winning. However, because of what happened with the trade request and his current remaining contract (four years, $7.5 million), he may be just too difficult to justify.

This is the amount that Ottawa Senators GM Brian Murray wants for him.

Meanwhile, the Rangers picked up Marian Gaborik and Marian Hossa from Chicago. Also, the Minnesota Wild appear to have a verbal agreement with Martin Havlat. These three close off most avenues that Heatley could have gone.

So now it is all in the Heatley court. If he takes the Oilers offer, there is a possibly he could sit for a very long time, which would have an influence on his chances of going to the Olympics.

The clock is ticking.
