England sit on no points through two matches, now will have to beat Costa Rica in their final match and hope Italy defeat the Costa Ricans and Uruguay while advancing on goal differential.
It was Suarez who put Uruguay in front first with a excellently taken header that beat Joe Hart in the 39th minute.

Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera denied Rooney from close range in the 56th minute with a top-class save.
Rooney had the chance to give England the lead in the first half but failed to keep his headed effort down.
