Detroit sports started off May in a great fashion and it left their fans cheering well into the early hours of the morning.
Well it was either that or they were celebrating the fact that the "April in the D" commercials won't be played anymore. So let's see what happened.
The Tigers finished up a sweep of the New York Yankees with an 8-4 win in New York
New York started off strong with the runs in the first, but couldn't muster much more than that throughout the rest of the game. Nate Robertson buckled down and held the Yankees without a run after the first until the fifth as he picked up the win. The heart of the lineup had a great day of hitting with 3-4-5 hitters Magglio Ordonez (3-5), Miguel Cabrera (2-4), and Carlos Guillen (2-4) combining for five RBI's and four runs. The Tigers didn't have a close game in the series as they beat up on the ailing Yankees pitching staff.
The Pistons knocked the Philadelphia 76ers out of the playoffs with a 100-77 blowout in Philly
This game got ugly early with the Pistons finishing up the first quarter with an 18 point lead. The 76ers never led in the game and only managed to put up more points in a quarter once. That was in the fourth quarter when the game was already more than out of reach.
Richard Hamilton led all scorers with 24 points, followed by teammate Chauncey Billups with 20 of his own. Andre Iguodala led his team in scoring in a losing effort with 16 points. The Pistons had some of us scared early on in the season, but they finally woke up and played up to their championship caliber style of play.
Speaking of blow-outs, The Red Wings swept the Colorado Avalanche 8-2 in a game that made Colorado fans glad that their season is over
Johan Franzen continued light the lamp as he tallied another hat-trick on his way to breaking Gordie Howe's single-series goal record. Howe scored eight goals in seven games back in 1949. The "Mule" (Franzen) scored nine goals in the short four game series.
Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg continued to make Colorado defenders look like children as they dominated play in the offensive zone like they had all season. The two combined for two goals and five assists in the series finale.
Zetterberg had an acrobatic, ESPY worthy goal in the second period where he collected his own rebound while falling down backwards and took a backhand shot that bounced off of goaltender Peter Budaj and into the net. Budaj was brought in to relieve Jose Theodore who had yet another bad outing in the series.

None are impressive if you take into consideration the Yankees don't have A-Rod and many pitching problems, the Pistons SHOULD have finished the over-rated 76'ers in 5 or less and the Avalanche are nothing like they used to be.

That may be true, but what are the odds that they would all happen on the same night?

Detroit teams did it twice this year so far. It's a great time to be a Detroit fan.
I don't know about this fall though with the Lions and all. But let's not go there yet.
I am sorry but three in a row in yankme stadium is impressive Arod or not. And any time you win a playoff series whether its four or seven is impressive and deserves credit...even if other teams are so called ailing or old. You play a Detroit team in the playoffs this year ya better bring it!
