Troubled quarterback Ryan Perrilloux has been dismissed from the defending national champion LSU Tigers after Les Miles kicked Perrilloux off the team Thursday.
Miles said in a press release Friday morning that, "[Perrilloux] didn't full-fill his obligations as as LSU student-athlete." No specific reason for his dismissal was given, but it has been speculated to be drug related.
Perrilloux in 12 games last season completed 51 of 75 passes for eight touchdowns and two interceptions. He played behind quarterback Matt Flynn on the way to the Tiger's title run last season.
Perrilloux was suspended last summer after being caught in a counterfeit scam where the player tried to use a fake I.D. to gain access into a Baton Rouge casino. Early into last season Perrilloux was also involved in a night club incident, but was later cleared of all charges.
Without their number one prospect at quarterback, the Tigers will look to either walk-on Andrew Hatch or redshirt freshman Jarrett Lee to take over quarterback duties. Both were reported to be having a good spring, but neither will bring the athleticism that Perriloux offered.
In an already tough SEC Conference, the loss of Perrilloux could drastically change the face of the SEC West. The hope the Tigers can take away from this is that they have a relatively easy out of conference schedule against the likes of Troy, North Texas, Tulane, and the defending champions of the championship sub-division Appalachian State Mountaineers.
You have to give it up to Miles—he gave Perrilloux chance after chance to atone for his mistakes, but I guess being the starting quarterback for the defending national champions just isn't good enough for some.
