Lionel Messi Breaks Mascot's Heart After Missing Handshake Before Argentina Game

Lionel Messi scored a sensational goal as Argentina shaded Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-1 in their World Cup opener, but while his nation will have celebrated, one person who won't have felt as much joy is the mascot.

Before the game, he held out his hand for a shake with his hero, but Messi went straight to the refereeing team and left him hanging.

If you look closely, you can see the exact moment his heart breaks as he realises Messi has moved past him.

There's some consolation as Maxi Rodriguez follows up and gives him a pat on the head.

However, as coach Alejandro Sabella would probably admit, Maxi Rodriguez is no Leo Messi.

Update:

In an ironic twist, Messi actually came back around to shake the mascot's hand afterward. Unfortunately, the boy had already walked away, leaving Lionel to shake the hand of the wrong mascot!

To summarise: Messi accidentally snubs child, comes back to make his day, ends up shaking wrong mascot's hand. Tough day, little guy.
