Ivory Coast earned a hard-fought 2-1 comeback win over Japan in their opening Group C clash.

Keisuke Honda gave Japan an early lead in their Group D clash against the Ivory Coast with a thundering strike in the 16th minute.

The AC Milan man fired a powerful shot with his left foot to the top corner of the net.

Les Elephants equalised in the 63rd minute behind a headed goal from Wilfried Bony.

Shortly after, in nearly an identical situation—cross from the right side swung in—Ivory Coast took the lead with a neatly headed goal from former Arsenal man Gervinho.

Japan will look to rebound next against Greece on Thursday and Ivory Coast will face Colombia with a place atop the group on the line.
