Sather... Grab Vinny Next!

Now that the Rangers have traded faux number 1 center Scott Gomez, we have a gaping hole on the top line.  It's not as if having Gomez wasn't a gaping hole to begin with.

Unless you count Brandon Dubinsky as a number 1 center (which he's not...as of yet) or Chris Drury (he never has been, always played a strong number 2), we are truly lacking in that position.

This is why I am unequivocally saying, let's forget about Dany Heatley for now.  I love having talented wingers, without question.

We just picked up a solid one in Chris Higgins, who truly has untapped potential.  A talented center is truly our biggest gaping hole.

Vinny is the best one available, and arguably top 5 in the league today (VL, Crosby, Malkin, Thornton, Datsyuk. In no particular order).  Tampa is lacking on the blueline and at the moment, that is our biggest position of depth.

In my opinion, this move Sather made today, trading away Gomez, was a strong statement and a good trade.  As said before, Higgins is a solid 20 - 20 guy, and McDonagh is arguably the Habs best prospect.

What could ruin this all however, is if Sather trades part of our nucleus.  Leave Dubinsky, Cally, Staal, Girardi. These are the guys who are the heart of our team.

Possible trades to acquire Vinny Lecavalier:

Zherdev, Voros, Roszival, Sanguinetti, next years 1st

Redden, Voros, Sanguinetti, Anisimov, next years 1st

Gratchev, Voros, Sanguinetti, next years 1st and 2nd

I'm sorry to say, but Bobby Sangs is available, due to Matt Gilroy and Michael Del Zotto looking solid.  I'd rather lose him, then any of the other aforementioned players.

Sather, today you're one for one.  Please, don't ruin it.  Acquire a player we need and don't give up the ones we can't lose.
