Christ the Redeemer Lit Up in Colours of Every World Cup 2014 Team

Mark PattersonUK Staff WriterJune 12, 2014

On the eve of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Christ the Redeemer was lit up in the colours of every participating team in an incredible sound and light show.

The colours of the flag were projected on the iconic Rio de Janeiro statue, while national anthems were played in the background.

The ceremony was the idea of the Archdiocese in Rio, and Brazil fans will see those colours again during the tournament, according to Catholic Register:

The archdiocese also said that the Christ the Redeemer statue would be illuminated with Brazil's flag colours, green and yellow, every time the Brazilian team plays. Brazil will kick off the games June 12 in Sao Paulo, against Croatia.

You can see some of the dramatic ceremony in the video above. Frankly, if that doesn't get you excited for the World Cup, nothing will.
