    The World Cup is only hours away now, but Thursday's newspapers have still found plenty of space for club transfer gossip.

    According to one report, Chelsea and manager Jose Mourinho are confident that Cesc Fabregas will join the club from Barcelona.

    Meanwhile, Liverpool have targeted Schalke star Max Meyer for a summer move to Anfield.

Chelsea and Jose Mourinho Confident on Signing of Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona

    Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is confident the deal to bring Cesc Fabregas to Stamford Bridge will be completed soon, reports John Cross of the Daily Mirror.

    According to the article, Arsenal have not activated their buy-back clause in the Barcelona midfielder's contract, and the Blues are looking to confirm the £27 million deal before the end of the week.

    Cross also claims Fabregas has been discussing personal terms with Chelsea this week, and may now be given permission by Spain to undergo a medical while preparing for the World Cup. 

Liverpool Consider Transfer Move for Max Meyer of Schalke

    Liverpool are weighing up an £8 million move for Schalke playmaker Max Meyer, reports The Metro.

    According to the article, the Anfield club have been monitoring the 18-year-old in recent weeks, and they are now ready to make their move.

    The newspaper reports that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers could lodge a bid before the weekend.

    Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will use his time at the World Cup finals to assess transfer options, with Mario Mandzukic among his targets, claims Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph.

    The Gunners boss is in Brazil in his role as an analyst for French television, and he is believed to be in Sao Paulo for the opening game of the tournament between Brazil and Croatia, reports Law.

    Bayern Munich striker Mandzukic is suspended for the match against the host nation, but he remains high on Wenger's list of targets, claims the report.

    Manchester United are considering a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, reports the Daily Express.

    The Old Trafford club may turn their attention to the 29-year-old Germany international after missing out on Allianz Arena team-mate Thomas Mueller, claims the article.

    Meanwhile, Chris Richards of the Daily Mirror reports that United have withdrawn their interest in PSG striker Edinson Cavani and Cesc Fabregas. 

FC Porto Midfielder Fernando Cuts Short Holiday to Join Manchester City

    Manchester City are poised to complete their move for FC Porto midfielder Fernando, reports David Anderson of the Daily Mirror.

    According to the article, the 26-year-old has cut short a holiday in Brazil in order to finalise the £16 million transfer.

    Fernando's agent, Antonio Araujo, is quoted as saying: "Fernando is in the city of Porto and is waiting for FC Porto to tell him the transfer documents are completed and he can travel immediately."
