Bosh Could Be Headed to Houston

According to Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle, Chris Bosh could be headed to the Houston Rockets by way of two different scenarios:  Traded this summer or signed via free agency in 2010. 

This is huge news to Rockets' fans, who just learned of the severity of Rockets' center Yao Ming.  Bosh would be an excellent move to show fans that the front office is serious about staying a contender in the Western Conference. 

Bosh, who is coming up on the last year of his contract with the Toronto Raptors, is owed $14 million by seasons end.  Signing or trading for Bosh would bring a tremendous scoring and rebounding presence, although not exactly as great as Yao's.  Bosh can shoot similarly from the line, posting an .817 percentage last season but clearly can't block shots and anchor the lane like Yao has for the Rockets.  That being said Bosh would potentially be better than most that are available on the market right now. 

Rockets' General Manager Daryl Morey should and would jump at the opportunity to get Bosh, who could certainly be included in the Rockets' long-term plans because he is only 23 years-old and is much healthier than Yao Ming is at this point.  The Rockets could try to use this as a negotiation piece with free agent Ron Artest, who could walk if he doesn't feel the Rockets can go anywhere next season. 

The big question at this point would be: If you trade for Bosh now, who do you give up?  The Rockets have a couple of young pieces but not too many and wouldn't want to give them all up anyway because it would put them in a hole that would be difficult to get out of.  Obviously, if they wait until next year to try and sign him, they could lose him to another team.  At this point, it's tough to foresee which direction the Rockets will choose to go but one thing is for sure, whatever they are going to do, they need to make something happen fast because the organization could be in a world of trouble come October.
