While athletes often take issue with what's printed about them in the tabloids, rarely do they have a response as perfect as Kevin Pietersen's on Wednesday.
It started when The Sun's John Etheridge reported that an angry Pietersen had returned his England gifts from his 100th test:
EXCL - Kevin Pietersen so upset with England treatment that he has returned his 100th Test gifts http://t.co/ckdPsP6tVe— John Etheridge (@JohnSunCricket) June 10, 2014
Pietersen immediately countered with pretty definitive proof to the contrary:
He then proceeded to further tear into Etheridge, calling out Etheridge's "LIES" and "irresponsible journalism."
Etheridge, for his part, apologised to Pietersen and pledged to investigate the source of his information.
@KP24 Was told categorically at Lord's yesterday that gifts were returned and in ECB offices. Weird - will investigate. Can only apologise.— John Etheridge (@JohnSunCricket) June 11, 2014
