MLB Team Needs 2014: Houston Astros

Having suffered through three straight 100-loss seasons coming into this season, nobody expected the Houston Astros to be among the American League’s contenders in 2014.

But something funny has happened recently: In the last few weeks, the Astros have become a contender.

Yes, it’s true. After looking a lot like the same old Astros with a 9-19 record in April, they’re 19-17 ever since and are very much in the AL Wild Card race. If things continue to go right, the Astros are going to have a shot at playing in October well before anyone expected them to.

As for what must go right, it really comes down to players the Astros already have stepping up. That includes two players in particular on offense, one starting pitcher and a couple of relievers.
