Children vs. Elephants in Football Match a Terrifying Thailand World Cup Tribute

Mark PattersonUK Staff WriterJune 9, 2014

Just when you think you've seen every possible novelty idea for the 2014 World Cup, a team of Thai schoolchildren take on a team of elephants in a football match.

SNTV captured some remarkable footage of the encounter, which you can watch above.

The elephants have national flags painted on their backs and have a considerable size advantage over their opponents.

The oversized ball also works against the children.

In an interview after the game, one of the boys was asked what it felt like to be involved in the contest.

"Fear," he says. "I was very afraid that the elephants would run me over. I was just afraid."

That seems like a reasonable reaction given that the boys were up against elephants.

The match concluded after 30 minutes with the score tied at 3-3.

To find out whether man triumphed over animal in the penalty shootout, watch the video above.
