The Most Eligible Bachelors & Bachelorettes in Sports Right Now

0 of 15

    USA TODAY Sports

Like the Miami Heats and Alabama Crimson Tides of the world, eligible bachelors who possess rare talent and are rich because of it, typically steamroll the competition—even if the occasional upset derails their plans.

When these single men are pro athletes, the odds shift even further in their favor, because the fame and wealth frequently come attached to an attractive and fit human being.

And whereas the elite entrepreneurs and geniuses of the world seem to always come as packaged deal with sometimes-intolerable eccentricities or just a plain old sense of megalomania; athletes usually are just…dudes (sometimes to a fault).

The single women looking for love today grew up watching and reading classic tales of romance like Cinderella and Snow White; and guess who ultimately saved those ladies in the end with just a kiss? Princes, that’s who. And they barely lift a finger in the process.

So, can you blame a lady if she makes Derek Jeter a No. 1 Seed in the tournament of eligible bachelors?

Is it fair? Nope. But, it’s real.

These are the most eligible bachelors in sports right now.

Rob Gronkowski

1 of 15

    USA TODAY Sports

Rob “Sorry for Partying” Gronkowski has been linked to porn star Bibi Jones in the past, but it seems the Patriots stud tight end prefers to keep his romantic encounters casual—at least for the time being.

Gronk is such a bro’s bro that it’s hard to see him settling down anytime soon. The 25-year-old will remain among the most eligible bachelors in sports until he finds a lady that can hang with him—a very tall order.

Yasiel Puig

2 of 15

    USA TODAY Sports

In case you haven’t heard, Dodgers slugger Yasiel Puig is kind of a big deal. The 23-year-old was brought up from the minors in June 2013 and was one of the most buzzed about players of the season.

A language barrier could pose a problem for Puig on the Los Angeles dating scene but between Southern California’s large Spanish-speaking population and his rapidly evolving English, it's not anything that can’t be overcome.

John Wall

    USA TODAY Sports

Last summer the future of Wizards’ point guard John Wall was up in the air. Then he signed a max contract extension and bought a $5 million mansion, proving he was ready to settle down in D.C. indefinitely.

Although Wall has been linked to a few girls throughout his career, including Chris Brown’s ex Karrueche Tran, but the 23-year-old is still very much available. And with the Wizards coming off their first playoff since he was drafted, Wall’s stock has never been higher.

Rory McIlroy

4 of 15

    USA TODAY Sports

Irish golfer Rory McIlroy is a hot new addition to the bachelor market, having recently called off his engagement to Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki—just after the couple had sent out wedding invitations. Ouch.

McIlroy is obviously a very bad breaker-upper, but at 25 years old, he’s still quite young and adorable, with a very bright future ahead of him. He’s not ready for marriage, so expect him to be playing the field for at least a couple years.

Russell Wilson

    USA TODAY Sports

Another recent addition to the eligible bachelor market is the reigning Super Bowl champion Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson. In April it was announced that he had filed for divorce from his wife of two years, Ashton.

There have been a lot of unsavory rumors about the couple’s divorce, all of which paint the adorably sweet Wilson as a man who may have been very wronged by his wife. We may never know exactly why they split, but we do know Wilson is already a hot commodity on the singles' market.

Steven Stamkos

6 of 15

    USA TODAY Sports

Lighting captain Steven Stamkos is one of the most promising young superstars in the NHL today. With the exception of last season, which was hampered by injury, he has finished among the top point scorers in the league since 2009-10.

Stamkos is boyishly handsome, but the 24-year-old center is all man on the ice. He was last linked to a lady in 2011 and may or may not be currently single. But since there is no indication Stamkos has gotten serious with anyone, he’s still very much an eligible bachelor.

Sydney Leroux

With America’s sweetheart Alex Morgan officially off the singles' market, her teammate and BFF Sydney Leroux has taken her place as women’s soccer’s most eligible bachelorette. And as adorable as Ms. Morgan is, Ms. Leroux has been the undercooked treasure of that team for too long.

Honestly, it’s a miracle she’s still single. Leroux broke off an engagement in 2012 and has since been romantically linked to Texans defensive end J.J. Watt and Niners quarterback Colin Kaepernick, both of whom narrowly missed making this list themselves. Don't expect her to be a bachelorette for long.

Ronda Rousey

8 of 15

    USA TODAY Sports

UFC’s Ronda Rousey is, hands down, the best female fighter in the world. She’s tough as nails, unflappably confident and refreshingly honest in interviews. She also happens to be very single.

Rousey’s substantial sex appeal means she can’t be hurting for options, but last year her mother revealed in an interview that she’s overly cautious in that department, always worried people are drawn to her celebrity.

Jadeveon Clowney

Over the last 18 months, Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has been one of the most talked about athletes in sports. After rocketing to superstardom during the 2013 Outback Bowl, Clowney’s every move was meticulously dissected ahead of becoming the No. 1 overall pick in May’s draft.

Most of the talk was nothing more than media manufactured drama. The truth is, Clowney is an exceptional talent and a very likable guy. With a friendly demeanor and inviting smile, this kid is going to have women and sponsors beating down his door for the foreseeable future.

Blake Griffin

    USA TODAY Sports

His teammate Chris Paul is happily settled down with a wife and young son, but Clippers superstar Blake Griffin is still weighing his options. Although he did welcome a son last September, Griffin and the baby’s mother—who is also the mother of quarterback Matt Leinart’s son—are no longer in a relationship.

Playing in Los Angeles automatically makes Griffin a hot commodity. The fact that he’s single and signed a five-year, $95 million deal in July 2012, makes that commodity even hotter. Griffin is also kind of adorable and super hilarious to boot. It’s just a matter of time before some lucky lady captures his heart.

Matt Kemp

11 of 15

    USA TODAY Sports

Dodgers slugger Matt Kemp has been romantically linked to stunningly sexy singer Rihanna in the past and more recently with reality star Khloe Kardashian. Although the 29-year-old has an active social life, getting serious with someone doesn’t seem to be a priority.

Which is actually good news, because it means there’s more Matt Kemp to go around. With his model good looks and certified celebrity status, Kemp is easily among the most desirable bachelors in sports today.

Ryan Lochte

    Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte is definitely not a guy who is wanted for his mind. That being said, he’s still got an awful lot to offer for all the single ladies out there who don’t consider book learnin’ of high importance. And Lochte is surprisingly likable for a bro with such an over-the-top bro persona.

He can pull off extremely confident without coming across as arrogant—maybe a little cocky though. With the Rio Games just two years away, Lochte is about to step back into the international spotlight, which is where he feels most at home. Don’t expect him to be getting serious anytime soon, especially when his mom is so understanding of his penchant for one-night-stands.

P.K. Subban

13 of 15

    USA TODAY Sports

Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban is a lightning rod for controversy in the NHL, but it’s only because his greatness occasionally inspires opposing fans to say terrible things about him. That’s just what happens when you’re only 25 and already one of the best in the game.

Subban has been incredibly poised and composed in the face of controversy—he’s almost impossible to rattle. In addition to being incredibly good looking and well dressed, Subban is a superstar on the rise, and currently due for a very big payday in Montreal. None of that will be working against him with the ladies.

Johnny Manziel

14 of 15

    USA TODAY Sports

The girlfriends of athletes invited to the NFL Draft often steal the show, but there was no dame on the arm of quarterback Johnny Manziel to share the spotlight with when he was drafted by the Browns in May. He prefers all eyes on him, at all times.

Though he has been spotted out and about with various women in the last year, Manziel has made it clear that he is single and ready to mingle. And as the biggest star to hit Cleveland since LeBron James, Johnny Football is going to have crowd of ladies forming behind him wherever he goes.

Derek Jeter

15 of 15

    USA TODAY Sports

Throughout his career with the Yankees, Derek Jeter has dated countless inexplicably beautiful women. And even more inexplicably is the fact that he’s dumped each and every one of them, most after less than a year.

It’s become quite clear The Jeet is more committed to being a bachelor than any one woman—at least to this point. When Jeter retires after this season he will be 40 years old, maybe he’ll find time to settle down in his life after baseball.

    Crazier things have happened.
