5 Dutch Players the Premier League Would Love to See Signed This Summer

0 of 5

With the arrival of Louis van Gaal as Manchester United manager came a flood of rumours linking him to half the Dutch national team; some fanciful, some exciting, and some even with a semblance of sense, considering his style of play and the needs of the United squad.

Now with Ronald Koeman reported to be close to joining him in the Premier League as the new boss of Southampton, as per Daniel Taylor of The Guardian, a fresh batch of Dutch players are already seeing their names in the papers.

Here are five Dutch players that fans in the Premier League should enjoy seeing next term if they were to make a move—though, doubtless, not all of them will end up based in England in a single transfer window.

Kevin Strootman

Liam Prenderville of the Mirror reports that Kevin Strootman is one of Van Gaal's prime targets—but a long-term knee injury means the move may not happen until January.

The AS Roma midfielder is one of Europe's top talents and would have been an integral part of the Dutch side at the World Cup, but his ACL injury has seen him miss out entirely.

The 24-year-old Strootman has 25 caps for Netherlands.

Stefan de Vrij

Central defender Stefan de Vrij is a hugely promising talent who many tip for the top, and naturally he has been linked with moves to bigger leagues.

Stuart Mathieson of Manchester Evening News reports him as being one of Manchester United's targets, but he has also been linked with Premier League runners-up Liverpool, as per Simon Austin of Mirror Football.

De Vrij has won a dozen caps for Netherlands and could feature at the World Cup, though he is likely a backup to start with.

Bruno Martins Indi

Another Dutch United target, Bruno Martins Indi is a highly rated centre-back who also plays on the left side.

He has been tracked by plenty of big clubs over the past season or two, with Hannah Duncan of Metro reporting United want him as their main defensive target this summer. He would be a quality addition to most of the top sides in the Premier League as he is strong in the air with good acceleration.

Martins Indi has 16 caps and two goals.

Jordy Clasie

Jordy Clasie is a terrific all-round midfielder who can play both disciplined, energetic holding roles and as a more adventurous option through the centre.

He is being targeted, according to Jamie Anderson of the Express, by Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, among others, and would certainly be a fantastic capture for whoever lands him.

Clasie has won eight caps to date.

Daley Blind

Daley Blind is a technical, improving midfielder for Ajax who could play a big part in Netherlands' World Cup campaign.

At his best this season in a deep, controlling midfield role for his club, he is versatile enough to also play further wide, at left-back or in a more advanced central midfield position.

He has been linked with Manchester United, as per Tutto Mercato Web (h/t Yahoo) and has already won a dozen caps for his nation.
