The NBA's top 5 players
With the NBA season now completely done and the draft now come and gone. I am giving you my top 5 players as of right now. This group of players is based more on skill-set than age. I amnot basing this list on potential but on where I think the players rank as of right now. I believe these are clearly the top 5 players in the league right now; the top 3 clearly separated themselves from the rest of the field and the other two are not even close to reaching their potential. I have to admit it was very easy to do this year's list, normally I have to go back and forth on a player or two, but that was not the case after this particular season.
Remains the game's best player at 30, he has completely mastered every aspect of the game and by leading the Lakers to a 15th championship mastered the final component of leadership. Bryant is better than Lebron because he possesses two things James does not have a great mid range jump shot and a post-up game. Bryant still is a force defensively making the all defensive team for the ninth time in 10 years.
With his new committment to defense his game went to a new level; James had the best year of his career winning his first MVP award and carried it over to the playoffs averaging 35 points 9 rebounds and 7 assists. It will only be a matter of time before he heads this list.
I have not seen a comeback like this since Mariah Carey came out with her 2005 album The Emancipation of Mimi. Wade did everything but sell popcorn at home games; 30.2 pts, 7.5 ast and 5 rbs, 2.2 stl and 1.3 bpg; how he did not make first team all defensive is beyond me. Wade took a bad Miami team and led them to the playoffs. I believe if he were two or three inches taller he might be better than Lebron or Kobe but that is pure hyperbole.
Not since Magic Johnson has a point guard had this kind of season, Paul averaged 22.8 ppg, 11 ass, 5.5 rbs 2.8 spg and also shot over 50 percent from the field on a mediocre Hornet team. He is the new Isaiah Thomas without the range, but that will come.
Despite come up short in the Finals, he had a great season winning defensive player of year and averaging 20 and 14 for the season. Out of all these players Howard has the biggest upside because he is still a raw talent; but if he develops a low post game he will be illegal. I have questions on whether or not Patrick Ewing is the guy to teach him, Ewing was a jump shooting center. Outside of Lebron James if I had to start a team right now Howard would be my choice easily.
