The Penguins needed one game to move on to the conference finals.

They lost.

Fortunately, they still have three more tries.  That's what happens when you have a 3-0 lead in the series.

The Rangers were able to come out on top, shutting out the Pens 3-0 in game four.  Captain Jaromir Jagr had two goals, including the game winning goal.  The other was an empty netter.

Rookie forward Brandon Dubinsky scored the third goal for the Rangers to complete the win for New York at Madison Square Garden.

The big story of the night was Evgeni Malkin, who was checked from behind on a breakaway, and awarded a penalty shot.  On the play, he was checked into Henrik Lundqvist, and the puck dribbled in as the net came off its moorings.  After being reviewed, there was no conclusive evidence that the puck was in before the net moved, so the penalty shot was awarded, again.  On the shot, Malkin slowly glided into the zone, and released a wrist shot that would not have fooled any goalie in the league.  Lundqvist snared it, keeping his shutout alive.  The goal would have tied the game at one, and perhaps have changed momentum.

The Penguins were outplayed slightly, but enough to ensure that they did not get on the board at all.  Game five is on Sunday at 2:00 PM EST.

  1. The Hockey Gods were on the Rangers side.

That, or the referees have shares in NBC Hockey stocks...

  2. this article is decent.. first off the penalty shot was horrible and it didnt get snared by henrik. He got enough of it with his glove that it went wide. and the pens are for sure the most dominant team in the NHL right now, no doubt. The rangers finally learned to win they have to stay out of the box and thats what they did. Props to Henrik who finally after 3 previous games looks somewhat like a Vezina finalist.
Sunday pens are winning in Pittsburgh.
    4-1
