The Good, the Great and the Awesome from NXT June 5

0 of 3

On the heels of a wildly successful Takeover, NXT hit the WWE Network airwaves with a show headlined by Justin Gabriel squaring off with NXT Champion Adrian Neville, new No. 1 Contender Tyler Breeze debuting his music video and NXT Women's champion Charlotte making her return to Full Sail University for the first time since capturing the title in a classic against Natalya.

Speaking of Charlotte, she was greeted with the challenge of Bayley, the adorable and lovable Diva who has captured the hearts of the NXT universe. She gave the new champion everything she could handle, but the distraction of the returning Summer Rae, coupled with a game Charlotte, ended Bayley's night on a sour note.

Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger began their climb into tag title contention in an enhancement match. They picked up the win in a match far more difficult to win than it should have been. If they have trouble beating two no-name guys, how can they possibly fare well against The Ascension?

Mojo Rawley got back to his dominant, winning ways by knocking off Aiden English, and Tyson Kidd was granted a rematch against Adrian Neville for the NXT title by the champion himself.

With the show in the books, and all eyes on the future of the brand, here is a look back at the best of the best of the June 5 episode of NXT.

Tyler Breeze's Promo and Music Video Premiere

The new No. 1 Contender made his way to the ring prior to the night's main event and made it abundantly clear that he plans to become the first gorgeous champion in NXT history.

He referred to Adrian Neville as "The Man That Maybelline Forgot" and called his opponent from Takeover, Sami Zayn, "Seth Rogen's less good-looking brother," before premiering the music video for his brand new entrance theme.

The video was absolutely over-the-top and featured priceless facial expressions from Breeze. The last bit of the package saw Breeze tell the producer of the song, "Those lyrics are brilliant. I wrote them."

While the segment accomplished very little in terms of delivering fresh or innovative content, it did allow the Prince Pretty character to shine through. Last week, Breeze proved to a huge NXT Takeover audience that he could excel between the ropes. The pomp and circumstance of the supermodel gimmick had the opportunity to leave a mark on any new fans or those unfamiliar with Breeze.

As far as that goes, it was acceptable and effective.

Adrian Neville vs. Justin Gabriel and Tyson Kidd Gets His Rematch

One week after a grueling battle with Tyson Kidd, Adrian Neville continued to prove himself as a fighting champion, taking on Justin Gabriel in a hard-fought bout that resulted in a bruised eye for Gabriel and a win for Neville following Red Arrow.

After the match, Tyson Kidd made his way to the ring and had a few things he wanted to get off his chest. He apologized for his unsportsmanlike behavior from last week and then requested one last chance against Neville.

Never one to deny any Superstar he deems worthy, "The Man Who Gravity Forgot" granted the request and shook his competitive rival's hand.

The success of last week's main event and the positive reviews it generated should be enough to warrant another showdown between Neville and Kid. With Tyler Breeze not quite strong enough a character to be thrown into the title hunt right away, buying time with another Neville-Kidd match is the best solution.

    The NXT Divas

If Vince McMahon ever wanted to see the full potential of women's wrestling in his company, he should look no further than NXT and the Divas division that Triple H has pushed to the forefront of the brand.

Thursday night, Charlotte followed up last week's classic against Natalya with another highly competitive match against Bayley. She continued to show improvement and looked more motivated since capturing the Women's title.

Her win, despite the distraction of the returning Summer Rae, got her title reign off on the right foot and continued to showcase a young woman rapidly becoming one of the brightest young stars in all of WWE.

The return of Summer Rae opens up a great deal of storyline possibilities. Will she clash heads with Charlotte, who assumed a leadership role in the BFFs during the leggy blonde's time away?

What role will Sasha Banks play? Will she migrate towards Summer, with whom she had a close-knit friendship for a year, or will she side with the champion, who has achieved more over the last three months than Summer Rae did her entire time in NXT?

Whatever the answer ends up being, the fact of the matter is that the Divas of NXT are one of the most interesting and exciting aspects of the entire show.

Something that is almost never the case on either of the main roster programs.
