With the College World Series in the books—successfully, for this Tigers fan—the annual American sports calendar begins to turn its eye toward the month of July.
And that means one very exciting thing for fans across the country: Football.
NFL training camps begin in earnest the last week of July as teams begin to prepare for the upcoming regular season. With the start of training camps comes the start of real fantasy football drafts, not all the mock stuff that is going on these days.
So what does that mean for the fantasy football fan?
The time is now to start ramping up the fantasy football intake. Consume more news, knowledge, cheat sheets, rankings, mock drafts and more from now until opening kickoff 2009.
In order to dominate in fantasy football this year, fantasy football owners need to start training camps of their very own right now.

Brandon Jacobs [RB, Giants]
From ProFootballTalk:
Jacobs’ height and running style make him vulnerable to injuries, even if defenders often shy away from tackling him. His career high for carries in a regular season is 219, a number GM Jerry Reese sees going up this season following the departure of Derrick Ward.
Despite Jacobs’ breakthrough fantasy season in 2008 as a sure-fire starting fantasy running back, questions remain about his durability.
True, he will battle injuries. He has for the last two seasons. But it is hard to ignore his physical prowess and how that can translate into fantastic fantasy production.
If he can avoid the serious injury bug, which he did last season, Jacobs will again be a force on fantasy rosters.
Marques Colston [WR, Saints]
From ProFootballTalk:
“I feel great,” Colston said. “It’s probably the first off season that I’ve gone away [from off-season workouts] feeling 100 percent.”
Colston is coming off his most under-productive season as a pro, but that was mostly due to an injury he suffered to his hand in week one of the season.
If he truly is healthy heading into training camp, Colston will be in line for his best season yet as a wide receiver.
The MMR will continue to run every Monday morning as scheduled during the off season. If you have an injury update or want an update on a certain player, please leave a note in the comments.
