9 Committed Prospects Who Are Great Recruiters
It's one thing for a prospect to shut down his recruitment after committing to a school. However, the most loyal recruits turn into great recruiters after pledging to a program.
In this day and age, recruits can easily connect and stay in touch with one another through phone, email and social media. While college coaches must adhere to NCAA recruiting rules and restrictions, committed recruits can talk to uncommitted prospects as much as they want.
For 2015 recruiting, several committed players have shown they will play a big role in the shaping of their school's recruiting class.
Brady White, QB
Committed to: Arizona State
A 4-star quarterback from California, Brady White has the physical tools and intelligence to be a solid starter for Arizona State in a few seasons.
The Golden State native has also exhibited some natural leadership qualities since committing to the Sun Devils earlier this spring. He is a teammate of 4-star receiver Trent Irwin, and the quarterback is on the talented pass-catcher's case about joining him in Tempe.
In fact, White told Adam Gorney of Rivals.com (subscription required) that he plans to speak with many other recruits about playing at Arizona State. Look for him to help the Sun Devils pull off a couple recruiting coups.
Kerryon Johnson, ATH
Committed to: Auburn
The state of Alabama has a wealth of talented players in the 2015 class, but Kerryon Johnson may very well be the best of the bunch.
He committed to Auburn in April and has since turned his sights on luring other recruits to The Plains. Right now, it appears his top target is 4-star offensive lineman Tyler Carr, who also hails from Alabama.
Carr told Andrew Bone of AlabamaVarsity.com (subscription required) that Johnson is one of the main Auburn commits who are on him the hardest to join the Tigers. Johnson will likely go hard after several other big-name recruits for Auburn.
Kyler Murray, QB
Committed to: Texas A&M
Texas A&M received a commitment from 4-star receiver Kemah Siverand at the end of May. While the Aggies have a ton going for them to attract elite talent, they can thank 5-star quarterback commit Kyler Murray for helping land Siverand.
Siverand told Taylor Hamm of Gigem247 that a conversation with Murray about his decision to pledge to Texas A&M is what pushed them over the top with him. The fact that Murray helped the Aggies land a 4-star receiver almost immediately after his pledge shows how good a recruiter he is.
Kemah Siverand, WR
Committed to: Texas A&M
Kemah Siverand is a taking a page out of Kyler Murray's book by turning into a recruiter for Texas A&M. The 4-star receiver is excited to be an Aggie, and he's going to do all he can to help head coach Kevin Sumlin sign a premier class.
Siverand told the following to Taylor Hamm of Gigem247 about his plans to recruit 4-star defensive back Holton Hill on May 29: “I’m letting you right now I’m contacting Holton (Hill) right after this. It’s up to him to make his decision but I’m definitely going to be in his ear about it.”
Jarrett Stidham, QB
Committed to: Texas Tech
Jarrett Stidham is the best recruit Texas Tech that head coach Kliff Kingsbury has landed since becoming the leader of the Red Raiders.
The 4-star quarterback has excellent arm strength, plus he is an above-average athlete. He is fired up about throwing in Lubbock, and he's doing all he can to make sure he'll have some weapons around him.
Stidham told Matt Clare of RedRaiderSports.com (subscription required) earlier this spring that he is on 5-star receiver Tyron Johnson and 4-star receiver Ryan Newsome about catching passes from him at Texas Tech.
To make sure he's protected, Stidham also is recruiting 4-star offensive lineman Conner Dyer.
Marcus Lewis, CB
Committed to: Florida
As things stand right now, the headliner of Florida's class is 4-star cornerback Marcus Lewis. As the top player in the group, it's great that the Washington, D.C. native has taken the initiative and started to recruit other prospects.
A prospect that he has his sights on is 4-star dual-threat quarterback Deondre Francois. Lewis also told Blake Alderman of InsidetheGators.com (subscription required) that he is also on 3-star offensive tackle Tyree St. Louis.
Josh Rosen, QB
Committed to: UCLA
Josh Rosen is a 5-star quarterback who has just about everything needed to be successful at his position in college. The California native also has some charisma, which UCLA head coach Jim Mora is hoping to use to help the Bruins land several other elite recruits.
Mora trusts Rosen so much that the quarterback is expected to take a leadership role in the chase for 4-star receivers Christian Kirk and Cordell Broadus, according to Edward Lewis of BruinSportsReport.com (subscription required).
UCLA also had Rosen hang out with 5-star cornerback Iman Marshall during a visit in April, per Lewis. At this point, it wouldn't be crazy to assume Rosen sits in on the Bruins' recruiting meetings in Westwood.
Ricky Town, QB
Committed to: USC
As a 5-star quarterback, Ricky Town could have easily sat back and did nothing after committing to USC. However, he has become even more passionate about recruiting.
He is recruiting 4-star receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, per a report by Gerard Martinez of USCFootball.com (subscription required), who was also told by Town's 4-star receiver and teammate Lavan Alston that the quarterback is on him about USC.
Cameron Smith, who committed to the Trojans on May 21, says Town first touched base with him in February, according to USCFootball.com Recruiting (subscription required). The 5-star passer is also assisting USC in the recruiting of 5-star cornerback Iman Marshall and elite 4-star receiver Christian Kirk, according to Adam Gorney of Rivals.com.
Chauncey Rivers, DE/OLB
Committed to: Georgia
Chauncey Rivers is a 4-star pass-rusher who will love crashing off the edges for Georgia. However, it appears he's going to make sure he is joined in Athens by as many good players as possible.
Rivers is also assisting UGA in the recruitment of 4-star safety Rashad Roundtree, plus he is trying to flip 4-star defensive end Jonathan Ledbetter from Alabama. Look for head coach Mark Richt to have Rivers get on several other prime targets for Georgia.
Rivers told the following to Reuse on May 30:
I got Natrez (Patrick) to commit, because we go way back. I'm still working on (Jonathan) Ledbetter, but I'm pretty sure we'll land him - 100%. Right now, I'm working on the safety, (Rashad) Roundtree, and I'm trying to get him to commit. I'm working. I'm trying to make our 2015 class better.
