In a strange turn of events, the often polite Kevin Garnett found himself in a place he has never been, standing over the lifeless body of a referee on Monday night.
The bigger story of the night was the fact that Atlanta ended up winning the game 97-92 against the team that had the best regular season record in the NBA.
It is perhaps this fact that made what happened between Garnett and the referee so passe.
According to Sports.AOL.com "The confrontation started when Kevin Garnett cleared out Zaza Pachulia with an elbow, and the Hawks forward went forehead-to-forehead with the Celtics star. A referee grabbed Garnett, but he, too, got a push as Garnett struggled to break free."
It was then followed by Garnett pulling a butterfly knife from his shoe and stabbing the ref in the leg. When then ref didn't go down he then drew a .22 caliber pistol from a holster attached to his thigh and fired a shot into the refs shoulder.
When asked what the repercussions would be for the former MVP, NBA spokesman Tim Frank said Tuesday that there would be no fines or suspensions. Possibly out of fear.
One thing is for certain, the only way that sports fans will be able to look past this horrible incident would be if the Celtics totally redeemed themselves and swept the remaining round of the playoffs.
Attempts were made to reach Atlanta fans to get their reaction, unfortunately, it was learned just before this publication, that there are, in fact, no Atlanta Hawks fans.
