The Montana Class AA state softball tournament was decided in the most painful way possible: a walk-off strikeout.
The Billings West Golden Bears defeated Missoula Big Sky after Kendyl Boltz scored the winning run thanks to a handful of errors. A walk-off strikeout requires a lot of mistakes, and that's exactly what the Golden Bears received.
Tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning of the deciding game, Boltz struck out, but a dropped third strike forced the defense to make a play to record the out. Missoula ultimately committed two throwing errors on the play, allowing Boltz to score the winning run despite not putting the ball in play.
Missoula had knocked off Billings West in the tournament opener, which meant the Golden Bears needed to beat the Big Sky twice in order to win the tournament. With a bit of help, that's exactly what they did.
