WWE Payback 2014: Craziest Spots from Latest PPV Event
WWE Payback once again delivered on the entertainment front, and the clutch of stars who are dominating the company put on a remarkable show on pay-per-view.
Even with the absence of Daniel Bryan on the card, there were still a ridiculous number of segments and spots that sent the crowd crazy.
Of course, the main event between The Shield and Evolution had its fair share, but the rest of the card had an input on proceedings too.
With that in mind, let's take a look at the craziest spots that occurred at Payback, working our way up to the biggest one of the lot.
Evolution Destroy Roman Reigns
We start with the main event between The Shield and Evolution, which The Shield managed to somehow win after being beaten and battered for most of the contest.
This is our first crazy spot—and it is considered crazy because it was something we have rarely seen before.
For months, Roman Reigns has been the guy who has dished out beating after beating to hapless opponents—but the tables were very much turned at one point during Payback.
Evolution took it upon themselves to target Reigns and give him one hell of a beating. They used all sorts of weapons, even ripping off his infamous black military apparel to expose his body.
It was something we have never really seen before, and it would be repeated 24 hours later on Raw with Seth Rollins' unbelievable betrayal.
Luke Harper's Superplex
The match between Bray Wyatt and John Cena got everyone talking. There were some brutal spots throughout the contest.
And when Erick Rowan, Luke Harper and The Usos got involved in the match, things went from ridiculous to crazy.
One of the highlights from that contest was Luke Harper, who showed all his strength—and bravery—when he superplexed Jimmy Uso through two tables that were on the floor below.
This wasn't your usual superplex from the top rope down onto the cushioned ring. It was an absolute giant showing all his power and dropping his foe from a ridiculous height.
The crowd went crazy—and it was a stunning moment that summed up the anarchy of the match in general.
Bray Wyatt Smashes Cena Through the Barriers
Another amazing moment from that incredible match came after Harper's superplex, when Wyatt and Cena grabbed the spotlight once again.
With both men coming desperately close to winning on several occasions, it was clear that something dramatic would be needed to keep one man down for good.
And Wyatt's attempt at finally destroying Cena's resistance came when he delivered a brutal spear right into the timekeeper's area.
Sure, we've seen this kind of thing before—but barely involving Wyatt, who really left everything out there in order to entertain the crowd.
Cena and Wyatt both lay motionless for a few seconds before eventually clambering back to their feet. By this point, the crowd was completely absorbed in what was a thrilling contest.
Even though the result may have left a sour taste for some, there can be no doubting Cena's involvement in a great match.
Big E's Spear on Rusev
Another match at Payback involved an enormous spear—this time in the tussle between Big E and Rusev.
Although the contest was relatively short-lived, there were still some impressive moments between two big men who have stacks of agility too.
And the highlight of the contest had to be when Big E sent the Chicago crowd—often a tough bunch to please—wild by hurling his body through the ropes.
With Rusev trying to regain his balance on the edge of the ring, Big E tried his best to put the Bulgarian away by delivering a huge spear that sent both men hurling to the mat outside.
Even though Rusev would recompose himself enough to pin Big E, you could see the effect that had on both men—it was a brutally bizarre spot.
Seth Rollins' Incredible Leap of Faith
Let there be no doubting that Seth Rollins is an entertainer. In all fairness, he would make a fantastic babyface as a solo star, which makes his betrayal of The Shield a little peculiar.
He has been able to work the crowd with the brand of wrestling he delivered in NXT since The Shield turned face, but as a heel, you feel he may be slightly more limited.
Nonetheless, he delivered yet another amazing moment on pay-per-view when he defied the laws of gravity to completely clean out Evolution.
At that point, Evolution were well on top and were picking off The Shield mercilessly to edge themselves toward victory. With them beating on Dean Ambrose, all of a sudden, the camera panned out.
The daredevil Rollins stood on top of the set and flung his body at Batista, Triple H and Randy Orton to send the crowd wild once again.
It was a great follow-up of his leap at Extreme Rules and confirmed that he is a born entertainer.
