The short answer is yes.
The long answer is yes with a but ...
I've spent the last couple of days digesting all the sordid details of the Roger Clemens/Mindy McCready scandal, the lurid accusations, the questionable truths of it all, searching for the answer to the question "Mindy who?" and I've come to a conclusion.
Something stinks and it ain't just McCready's music although that has a lot do with all of this.
If you're unfamiliar with the allegations, I'm not sure why you're visiting Bleacher but just in case you've been in Djibouti for the last several months, here's the Cliff Notes version.
It's alleged the country music singer met Clemens when she was a struggling singer of 15 and he was Boston's big man on the mound, a 28-year-old married father of two. In a karaoke bar, no less!
And so began a so-called long standing relationship that, allegedly, had nothing to do with sex, at least not right away. Apparently, McCready is a "close family friend" and nothing more. Clemens' camp denies sex ever entered in to the equation.
Whether or not that's true, it's inconsequential. The bottom line is, we all know Clemens is a liar and a cheat. There are very few who don't believe Clemens was involved in the muscle-growing, testicle-shrinking world of steroids. He has become the poster boy for the Mitchell Report, has had several people accuse him of taking steroids and yet continues to deny any wrong doing.
Fair enough. If that's what you want to do, be my guest. I still won't believe you and no one is going to believe you about the whole no-sex-with-Mindy thing either.
On to Mindy McCready.
One columnist described McCready as the Amy Winehouse of country music. A quick surf over to Wiki and it's a fair assessment. Here's the rap sheet:
August 2004: Busted for using a fake prescription for buying the painkiller Oxycontin
May 2005: Pulled over for speeding and then arrested for driving under the influence as well as driving with a suspended license
July 2005: Charged with identity theft and all the other charges that come along with it
August 2005: Probation violation
July 2007: Charged with battery and resisting arrest after getting in to a tussle with her mother
September 2007: Probation violation
What a peach! It's not hard to see what Clemens liked about this gal, huh?
Prior to all of this, she had a moderately successful country music career, producing two big hits in "Ten Thousand Angels" and "Guys Do It All The Time" which opens the door to all kinds of jokes about this whole situation.
Here's the stinky part I was referring to earlier:
Mindy McCready is working on a new album.
The world of PR is a wonderful thing, isn't it?
McCready is working on a NEW ALBUM!
How long do you think Mindy was holding on to that Ace card? She and her publicist and her music company must of peed themselves when the Mitchell Report hit the headlines.
There's no better way to sell a couple of extra albums than with a scandal.

Nice read Tim. Clemens a scumbag? Hmmm... Don't know him well enough to make that assertion, but he sure appears to be a man with a truckload of flaws.
Yeah, it's sad to say, but he is a scumbag. Though he's not a 100% complete scumbag. A scumbag with an asterisk maybe??
from 8 months ago
I can live with that.

Tim, it is interesting to note as well, that here in Toronto they were reporting today that the Rocketman also was having an affair with John Daley's ex. Which ex I'm not sure, but it all coincides with your not so flattering review of McCready and her past. Roger likes the bad girls and what does his lovely wife think of all this? She is probably singing Tammy Wynette's "Stand By Your Man", now there is a real C and W singer! LOL Yah, Clemens must be a real proud father these days.

Whether or not it's true is inconsequential? What a biased article. No stars!
Given her long legal record and addictions I'm supposed to believe that Mindy McCready is telling the truth? Give me a break. This article is ridiculous.
from 8 months ago
Yea, well maybe its time to reconsider after Jon Daley's ex-wife basically admitted to having an affair with the Rocket. She said she "was uncomfortable talking about the situation" and she offered a no comment. So maybe Mindy wasn't lying then huh....
from 8 months ago
That's what I'm saying, Neil. Everyone is lying here - or at the very least - bending the truth for their own gain. It all stinks.

Great points but one thing I already was asking Mindy who? I have never heard of this broad.
from 8 months ago
Ditto! That's why I had to research it when the story broke.

This whole new Clemens allegation mirrors the phony story regarding Tony Parker & Eva Longoria that was perpetrated in Europe. Two months of lies from one newspaper and only one newspaper every day with the other newspapers all saying we can't confirm what the newspaper is writing ,only to have that paper apologize for their false story they printed for two months. What new scam is MLB spinning to draw attention away from their plan to bury Clemens You are not fooling me MLB your lies have stopped him from coming back and getting another big pay day. Your collusion plan to bring down player salarys was to destroy your biggest enemy Roger Clemens so players with simaler statistics could not use his salary to win salary arbitration cases thus bring up their salarys. But this plan is not going under the radar like your other scams is it MLB This one needs some new gas as more people are passing lie detector tests proving Roger Clemens is not lying and is person angry that he has to fight lies made up by MLB . Other Scams you people may not be aware of that MLB has pulled ,were The cheating of Nelson Doubleday Former Majority-Owner of the New York Mets out of a fare selling price for the team when Co-Owner Fred Wilpon offered to buy him out and solely own the team. Doubleday offered to sell his stake in the team to Wilpon , But Wilpon balked at Doubleday's value (about 800 M ) of the franchise and claimed it was only worth about 400 M.So Wilpon conspired with Bud Selig and convinced Doubleday they knew a respectable trustworthy who would give a fair assessment of the current market value of the New York Mets to settle the dispute. Low and behold after they scamed Doubleday to abide with this course of settlement the value came in at about 400 M but a year after the transfer of ownership to Wilpon the new current value was 800 M . Wow didn't we hear that number 800 M somewhere before ? Another Scam was the sale of the Expos to the other teams in the league after refusal to allow the movement of the franchise. But low and behold once the owned the team they moved it and sold the Expos / Nationals franchise for 3 times what they paid the former owner. You can't blame them if your a franchise and trying to make money you are not gonna vote another team to move to a new town and make more money than you, so you are not gonna get the everyone but one to vote yes for you. You need a vote to go 30 yes , 1 No to get a approval to move a franchise who are you kidding ? That's never happening !

haha Thanks for the rebuttal, Tim... made me laugh when I saw it.
Obviously, my vote would be a yes. Great article!

Thanks Andrew. I had to respond to your article (which was great also, btw). Clemens is no saint and neither is McCready.

Charles,
What are you smoking and what level bag handler are you for the Rocket? HONESTLY...can't imagine anyone defending Roger unless they are on his PR team. IF you are going to defend him, try to find an angle worth defending. Maybe he bought some girl scout cookies once and didn't hit on their mom (and the girl scout). Something like that. Don't defend something that is obviously true based on all the facts and inuendo's and history. Next you will be telling us that Bubba Bill Clinton never had a relationship with THAT WOMAN!!!
HAHA.

i honestly think if Roger had just come out in the beginning, admitted he used steroids and said he was sorry, we wouldnt have to find out what women Roger cheated on his wife with over the years. Its none of our business anyways but Roger deserves it for drawing all this negative attention to himself in the first place.

As they say, the truth will set you free.

I couldn't agree more Bryan. If Roger had come clean, his reputation would have been tarnished, but not PULVERIZED as it is now. But therein lies his fatal flaw. He's an egomaniac. Bonds is an egomaniac. Most steroid-abusing cheaters are. They think only of their own success and are willing to stomp on the rules, fairness, the law, their families etc. to obtain it. Clemens is incapable of coming clean, it's just not in his nature.

Sorry Eddie I have never done drugs or deliver them to anyone maybe thats why my heads so clear ! You ask why on earth anyone would defend Roger Clemens ? Maybe because there is more clear proof and more people testifing under oath and possibility that they go to jail that Brian McNamee is a lier. But why are you defending a accused rapist ? maybe because you don't know whats in his police report regarding the rape allegation. But maybe you should read it it will probably open your eyes and you will say to yourself " well that I never heard part ". The police report states the police were called to the Yankees hotel because a man was having sex in the outdoor pool. The police came upon Brian McNamee having sex with a women in the pool. He was asked to stop having sex , he did not stop. the police state the left and returned to find him redressing the women and exiting the pool. the women was taken to a hospital and asked if she had given permission to the man in the pool to have sex with him. Her responce was no and did not know what had happened in the pool , she was tested and had "The date rape drug in her system They returned to interview McNamee and he said he was not having sex with her in the pool and was " Saving her life " Yet in the police report their are witnesses other than police who saw him having sex in the pool with the women. So ask yourself why didn't this guy sue the Yankees after he was fired by them after this alleged rape ? Do you have a new thought on this guy because the police did not know the lier when they walked up to the pool that night in 2001 and in the police report it states that "Brian McNamee lied to me" I guess everyone that didn't know who saw him in the pool having sex for a prolonged period of time did not understand a rescue takes a long time and when police show up you don't stop rescuing someone or tell them you are because they may niterupt the rescue ? Yea ....he's no lier !!!

Roger Clemes = The White Barry Bonds.
Both deserve the HOF and both were the greatest players of their generation. Both Lied. The only difference is Clemens has no shame; he'll throw his wife, mom, best friend, trainer, etc. under the bus to save his already tarnished reputation. We all know McNamee is and was a loser; so why would a guy like Roger have this "lying-rapist" as a trainer? A trainer who had no other clients other than Roger and his friends? A trainer who is now embroiled in an ongoing defamation lawsuit regardless of the fact that he has no assests to his name? All while his son slowly dies of an incurrable disease. Way to take the high road Roger, you've really outdone yourself.

A great article on the other side of this Clemens-McCready story. Personally, I don't think McCready was saving this for an album release PR shot; but I could be wrong. I think this story came out because Roger decided to counter MacNamee with character defamation. Like I have said from the start, Clemens should have pulled a Petite and Giambi- fess up...even minimally.
Clemens had so much more to lose in a character battle with MacNamee. The steroids pusher wasn't trying to get in the Hall Of Fame, courting endorsements or trying to save a legacy. Sure MacNamee is far from being a boy scout and McCready is not a flower of the South. Yet, you can tell a lot about a person by the company he keeps.
But in all honesty, Clemens' character flaws and sins should not surprise us entirely. Mickey Mantle, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Satchel Paige, Pete Rose, Kirby Puckett, and Chipper Jones- the list of flawed human beings gifted with baseball skills goes on.
On one national radio sports talk show, the hosts put out an open question, "Who is the stupidest athlete you have ever seen and what did he or she do to deserve the distinction?" Several names came up like Pete Rose, Jennifer Capriati, Tonya Harding, Mike Tyson, etc. Then one caller submitted David Justice. When asked the reason for Justice's qualification for stupidity, the hosts asked if it was for the way he ripped Atlanta fans before game 6 of the 1995 World Series.
The caller responded, "Naw, man. David Justice is stupid because he cheated on Halle Berry! Da man was married to HALLE freakin' BERRY! And he cheated on her!"
I may not agree with the caller about Justice, but Clemens is close to him in the running.
