Prized utility player Mark DeRosa has been at the center of trade talks this season, and his wish was fulfilled today as the St. Louis Cardinals traded up-and-coming pitcher Chris Perez and a player to be named later to the Indians. DeRosa, who can play anywhere, has played at first, the outfield and third this season.

It's a great pick up for both clubs. Perez has been very good in the bullpen for the Cards as while as Jason Motte, one of the best holders in the National League this year. Perez will certainly help out the Indians, since they need a lot of help in the pen.

DeRosa's versatility will be fully utilized by the Cardinals as long as Tony La Russa is still in charge. The biggest need is another bat behind slugger Albert Pujols, as the guys behind him haven't lived up to their previous year. DeRosa certainly has those abilities as he has hid 13 home runs and driven in 50 RBI.

With the team needing a replacement at third with the loss of Glaus for the rest of the year, DeRosa helps them out tremendously. He may even help them out for a push to get a NL Central title.
