(Editor's note: This article is based on ESPN's translation of Di Maria's interview with Marca. There may be different interpretations of the interview that suggest Di Maria was hurt to be linked with a move away from Real Madrid in general, not specifically to Tottenham. The original text is as follows.)

Angel di Maria probably didn't mean to be quite so down on Tottenham when speaking about his Real Madrid future, but he managed to produce a gem of a line on going to London.

Di Maria has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu at various points over the last 12 months, ever since Gareth Bale joined the club.

Quoted in Marca (Spanish, translation via ESPN), the Argentine said:

Many things were said, sometimes you think a lot and it hurts you when you are trying to always do your best for a club and then it comes out that you might be going to Tottenham.

On the plus side, at least he'd be popular instantly if he were to be moved on to Arsenal.
