Tuesday, April 29th Scott Hairston went 3 for 4 with 3 Runs, a Double, 2 HRs, and 3 RBI. Jose Guillen was 2 for 4 with 2 Runs, a HR, a Walk, and 5 RBI. Placido Polanco, Mark Grudzielanek, and Skip Schumaker each cranked out 4 Hits. Adrian Beltre, Mark Teahan, Geoff Blum, Conor Jackson, Troy Glaus and Jeff Kent each knocked in 3 Runs. Brad Wilkerson, Franklin Gutierrez, Jorge Cantu, Mike Cameron (fresh off suspension), Corey Hart, J.J. Hardy, Rick Ankiel each had three hits. Jose Reyes went 3 for 3 with a Run, a Triple, an RBI, 3 Walks, and a Stolen Base.
My imaginary brother Jon Lester threw 8 one-hit innings with 6 Ks. Boston didn’t win until the 9th so he go a no-decision for his brilliant effort. The snake-bitten Roy Halladay threw his fourth straight complete game allowing one Run in 8-2/3 innings with 6 Ks, but fell to 2-4 with a 3.26 ERA. Joe Saunders pitched 8 four-hit shutout innings with 5 Ks to improve to 5-0 with a 2.08 ERA. He beat Greg Smith who went 8 innings allowing just 2 Runs. Garret Olson survived 5 Walks to go 6-2/3 innings allowing 2 Runs on 4 Hits with 6 Ks for his first win of the year. Fausto Carmona (6-2/3 innings, 2 Runs) and Carlos Silva (7 innings, 2 Runs) each took no-decisions in their matchup. Kenny Rogers gave up 2 Runs in 6 innings for his second Win. Cole Hamels allowed 2 runs in 7-1/3 innings with 6 Ks for his third Win. Doug Waechter pitched 4 innings of scoreless relief for the Marlins. Boof Bonser went 7 innings allowing 1 Run with 8 Ks for his second win. Johan Santana struck out 7 in 5-2/3 innings. He allowed 2 Runs and got a no-decision. Joel Pineiro threw seven one-hit shutout innings for his second Win of the year. Max Scherzer pitched 4-1/3 scoreless relief innings with 7 Ks. Aaron Cook allowed 2 unearned Runs in 7 innings to improve to 4-1 with a 2.41 ERA.
