MONTREAL, QC - JUNE 26: Chris Kreider puts on his New York Rangers sweater after the Rangers selected him #19 overall during the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft at the Bell Centre on June 26, 2009 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. (Photo by Bruce Bennett/Getty Images)

By this time last year, there had been an exciting 12 trades between the 30 teams in the National Hockey League through the duration of the NHL Entry Draft. During this current NHL draft, however, that number wasn't even close.

With each team getting a chance to pick a player or trade their draft pick, there were some good moves and bad. The New York Rangers certainly could have done a lot worse, but Chris Kreider is certainly a player that can be improved on. A great skater, with average hands, seems more like another Scott Gomez-type than the goal-scorer needed in the Rangers lineup.

I think Landon Ferraro would have been a better way to go, but that is just my opinon. With more rounds to come, look for a more complete grading of the draft in the following hours
