Why LSU Will Win the West (and Possibly SEC) in 2009

ATLANTA - DECEMBER 01: Head coach Les Miles and Glenn Dorsey #72 of the Louisiana State University Tigers celebrate with the SEC trophy after defeating the University of Tennessee Volunteers 21-14 in the SEC Championship game on December 1, 2007 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. LSU also has several new comers that should contribute this season too. Russell Shepard is a stellar athlete who will be on the field somewhere whether at QB or in more of a Percy Harvin type style. No one really knows where, but many are sure he will be one of the 11 on the field.
Reuben Randle chance to come in and be the Jones of Greene of '09 has only increased with the injury to Tim Molton. Randle could be the difference between a decent LSU receiving group versus a stellar group of receivers.

On defense look for Craig Loston(who appears to have qualified) to get on the field. He is the cousin of Russell Shepard and looks like a beast. He is by far one of two candidate to be considered the next big safety at LSU(Chad Jones being the other but he’s not new).

The final thing between LSU and a championship is their schedule. They have the players and coaches to compete with anyone, even Florida. LSU main test are Ole Miss, Bama, and UGA on the road. Then the cherry on top in Florida at home.

LSU is the only obstacle really in the way between Florida and an undefeated season, and winning in  Death Valley at night is no easy task for the Florida gators so I would not say an LSU win here would be considered an upset.

And people saying LSU is at a disadvantage because they get Ole Miss and Bama on the road need to look at the past. LSU has not lost in Tuscaloosa since 1999, and hasn’t lost in Oxford since 1998 in a 37-31 OT loss. And overall throughout the past decade, LSU has only dominated the West in Odd years.

LSU overall looks poised to accomplish great things this year and all of Tiger nation should and cant wait until September 5, especially since the LSU baseball season just ended. Look for LSU to have a stellar 2009 campaign
