Real Madrid players are in line for a substantial bonus if they win the Champions League final on Saturday night against Atletico Madrid—but Cristiano Ronaldo will apparently give away his £750,000 should his side triumph.

According to reports from The Sun (h/t The Mirror), Ronaldo will make the gesture after a conversation in which he claimed the silverware was more important than the money.

Per Paul Gorst of the Mirror:

A close friend of Ronaldo, who was talking to The Sun, has claimed that the Portugal international and current World Player of the Year will give his huge windfall to his pals if they beat Los Rojiblancos.

The source said: “Cristiano was chatting with the physios and said that winning the Champions League was more important to him than money.

“One of the guys responded, saying: ‘Well then, if we win the Champions League, you could share your prize with us!’

“Cristiano agreed, saying: ‘OK, if we win the Champions League I’ll use the money to offer a car to each one of you, and one to each member of the technical team’. And if there is any money left over, he will donate it to the Messengers of Peace.”

Ronaldo will be playing in his third Champions League final. He won the tournament with Manchester United in 2008 but lost the final the following year with the Red Devils, as Barcelona triumphed.

While the money is considerable, it would, of course, be dwarfed by his annual salary at Real, reported by the Daily Mail to be around £288k a week after tax. The Portuguese star also earns plenty more beyond that in endorsements.
