Will Diego Simeone spring a surprise in the biggest game of his and his players' careers? Probably not.
The main two points of interest are whether or not star striker Diego Costa will lead the line after injury and if playmaker Arda Turan can shake off a knock and take his starting place.
Both players sustained their injuries on the last day of the La Liga season, against Barcelona.
Although they were both substituted in the first half, Atletico Madrid came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw and seal their first Spanish league title for nearly two decades.
So, what's wrong with Costa and Turan, and will they make it?
We'll know more about their conditions after Simeone speaks on Friday night at the Estadio da Luz for his pre-match press conference.
Costa was diagnosed with a grade one hamstring tear and went to see Serbian doctor Marijana Kovacevic for treatment.
She uses placenta to help players recover in a quicker time period than expected.
Having undertaken the treatment in Belgrade, Costa flew back to join his Atletico team-mates and was even seen in training on Friday.
Turan has a knee problem but was also seen in training, bringing hope that he could feature against Real Madrid.
It would be a risk for Simeone to play them, but he's shown before that he's willing to dare.
Costa is more essential to the side than Turan, so if he only wanted to take one gamble, you'd expect the once-Brazilian, now-Spanish forward to be his pick.
Other than those two, the side will be a standard selection.
Thibaut Courtois has been on loan at Atletico for three seasons now but could be required by Jose Mourinho at Chelsea next term.
Playing in the Champions League final will be an outstanding way to end that period of his life.
The back line, from right to left, will be Juanfran, Miranda, Diego Godin and Filipe Luis.
Captain and central midfielder Gabi has put in plenty of brilliant displays this season and will hope he's saved the best until last.
Alongside him Tiago Mendes provides strong back-up, and usually to the right we have Koke.
If Turan doesn't make it, we could see Mario Suarez thrown into the mix as well, or possibly Adrian Lopez.
David Villa and Raul Garcia will provide the threat at the top of the pitch if Costa doesn't come through for the biggest game in Atletico's history.
Predicted Line-Up: Courtois; Juanfran, Godin, Miranda, Filipe Luis; Gabi, Tiago, Koke, Mario Suarez; Raul Garcia, Costa.
