Updates from Saturday, May 24
The Brewers had good news regarding Ryan Braun ahead of Saturday's game:
Mike Vassallo of the Brewers provides more details about Braun's return:
Ryan Braun bats 2nd today, his first start anywhere in the batting order but 3rd since 9/30/10 at NYM (also 2nd). #Brewers— Mike Vassallo (@MikeVassallo13) May 24, 2014
Updates from Friday, May 23
The Brewers reported bad news regarding Braun's status on Friday:
Ryan Braun has left tonight's game in the 5th inning with tightness in his right side.— Milwaukee Brewers (@Brewers) May 23, 2014
Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel pointed out it was the same side on which Braun suffered an oblique strain that earned him a trip to the 15-day DL earlier in the month:
#Brewers Ryan Braun left game with tightness in his right side. That's the side that bothered him enough to go on the DL earlier.— Tom (@Haudricourt) May 23, 2014
Coming into Thursday night, the former MVP was hitting .294 with seven home runs and 19 runs batted in. He's been one of the biggest reasons for the Brewers' hot start.
In order to maintain its 2.5-game lead on the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central, Milwaukee will need Braun back on the field. Given that this is a recurring problem, you'd expect that another stint on the DL might be in the cards, but if it's only of the 15-day variety, the Brewers won't be hurt too badly.
Anything more than that, and Milwaukee could be in trouble.
