Born in Brest, France, Gonzalo "Pipita" Higuain the son of Argentine footballer Jorge Higuain signed for Real Madrid at the age of 19 from River Plate and was not known until he was signed for Real Madrid.

Higuain was somewhat of "super-sub" scoring and assisting crucial goals coming off the bench for Real Madrid. Until Rudd Van Nistelrooy's injury last season, Gonzalo was somewhat of a fan favorite before that, but this season he cemented his place in every Madridistas's heart.

Pipita scored 22 goals and assisted nine times in his 34 La Liga appearances, including the winner against Valencia in the final of the Supercopa de Espana.

After Florentino Perez was declared the new president of Real Madrid there were rumors that Gonzalo might be sold as he was the signed by the former President Ramon Calderon. But Predrag Mijatovic the former Director Of Football for Real Madrid advised Perez to keep Higuain and even give him a better contract before stepping down.

And recently Jorge Valdano the Director General of Real Madrid came out and said that Higuain has earned his right to stay in the club. Higuain already has a contract with Real Madrid till 2013, Now an improved contract which he deserves might be offered to him soon, crushing all the rumors of a move away from Madrid.

This has also shown that Perez would not mind keeping the players signed under the presidency of Ramon Calderon, which is good news for the fans and the players of Real Madrid.
