The upcoming edition of Payback is set to be an incredibly intriguing show, as the state of play in the WWE is in a much different place than it has been over the last few months.
That is perhaps best summed up by the fact we are unsure whether WWE World Heavyweight champion Daniel Bryan will even be in possession of the belt by the time the event comes around.
He could well be stripped of the championship by the time Payback rolls around, or he could remain champion whilst he recuperates from his neck injury.
There will be openings for guys who have been operating under the radar over the last few months, and expect some of them to make a huge impact at the show.
Erick Rowan and Luke Harper
It's hard to imagine Erick Rowan and Luke Harper being under the radar at all—given how they have played a side role in the huge storyline between Bray Wyatt and John Cena—but they could get a chance to hog some of the spotlight themselves at Payback.
The fact the WWE keep incorporating The Usos into the storyline with Wyatt and Cena as allies of the latter suggests there is a tag match brewing at Payback—and the titles could well be on the line.
With The Usos falling off the radar—which never does the tag division any good—could Rowan and Harper win their first gold in the WWE?
It's certainly possible, given how impressive the duo have been of late. This is definitely a storyline that is worth following as we head towards Payback.
At Extreme Rules, Big E headed into the event as the Intercontinental Champion. However, he lost out to Bad News Barrett and has really fallen off the radar of late.
He won't be getting a rematch with Barrett at Payback—that spot has gone to Rob Van Dam—so what is there available for Big E at the show?
The most obvious answer would be a feud with Rusev, who has really made an impression since bursting onto the scene in the WWE.
Big E made the save on "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan a couple of weeks back on Raw when Rusev had him cornered, and that looks like it has given birth to a whole new rivalry for Big E. And with the match being Rusev's first real test in the WWE, expect Big E to go well.
He may not get the victory he so desperately needs at Payback, but he will certainly make a big impression—as he so often does.
When The Rhodes Brothers picked up the tag titles several months ago, it seemed to be a fresh—and much-needed—beginning for Cody Rhodes.
He is a supremely talented guy and can always generate a reaction from the crowd—whether working as a face or heel.
Unfortunately, he and Goldust have fallen severely down the pecking order lately, and something needs to happen for Cody's career to pick up once again.
Therefore, could a rivalry between the two men be just the tonic? It has been something that is often speculated amongst wrestling fans, as a classic feud between two brothers is often an avenue the WWE look to go down at some point.
If the split happens at Payback—perhaps the brothers could be teaming up in a tag match on the undercard—expect Cody to cause the split. He has huge potential, and if he turns heel once again, it could really give him a huge spark moving forward.
