Avery Johnson out of Dallas

Avery Johnson is not the problem in Dallas.

I hate how in the NBA when a team does not win the coaches get fired. A coach is only as effective as his squad, and a squad which fails to execute to the degree the coach instructs them should shoulder the blame. 

Why doesn't anyone call Dirk Nowitzki out on his lack of playoff success? How can the man named the NBA MVP not part of the reason why his team has had early exits in the first round after losing the NBA Finals after being up 2-0. 

Dirk is a great player but he is not a closer. Nor is he a great number 1 option. Sure he gets his points and the Mavs win games in the regular season, but when the games really count, Dirk doesn't rise to the occasion. 

He is a defensive liability and you simply cannot build a team around a power forward/center who won't give you the defensive presence you need. With the exception of the Heat, all of the teams who have won the NBA finals have been known for some kind of defense. 

When will teams learn that the run and gun offense is great for selling tickets but poor for winning championships. Defensive games do not require being accurate in draining the ball, which is why teams who play defense can be more consistent on a nightly basis when compared to a good offensive team. If a player struggles and others aren't filling in, the whole team suffers. 

No team can be expected to shoot over 50% every night against the same team 4-7 times in a row. Teams are smart and they make adjustments quickly. Playing defense is the surefire way of staying in a playoff series. 

Don't fire Avery, fire Nowitzki, after all he's the big time choke artist.
