Brian Burke has told the media here in Toronto that he has received a substantial offer for Thomas Kaberle. This offer currently includes a roster player and a draft pick. Burke also states that there could be more added to this package today.

After stating this offer Burke has also contacted four other National Hockey League teams to inform them of where the bar has been set to acquire Kaberle. Burke also states that he was going to wait until Jay Bouwmeester was signed by a team, and then use Kaberle as a bargaining chip with the teams that were not so lucky in acquiring Bouwmeester.

Getting back to the roster player and draft pick deal for Kaberle. The Los Angeles Kings have been shopping young defenceman Jack Johnson in recent days. Could this deal be Thomas Kaberle for Jack Johnson and the 5th overall draft pick this year? If it is I would assume the Kings may want at least a 2nd round pick added to the deal. Only time will tell if this is one of the tabled offers.

One of the rumours flying around is that the team that has tabled this offer to the Maple Leafs is one of the teams trying to acquire Jay Bouwmeesters negotiating rights from the Florida Panthers. That would mean that the Philadelphia Flyers (they have had interest in Kaberle in the past) are also a possibility, as they have made no secret about their interest in Bouwmeester.

Today will be an interesting day to watch unfold, and is surely one of my favorite days of the season, enjoy!
