Saracens and Northampton Saints emerged as victors in their respective Aviva Premiership playoff semi-finals this weekend to seal their places in this season's title matchup, triumphing over Harlequins and Leicester Tigers, respectively.

The English quartet contributed the most fearsome collisions of this week's biggest hits, where it was a Salesi Maa'fu punch-up with Leicester's Tom Youngs that gets top honours.

His Saints teammate Ben Dickinson also gets into the reckoning, while Tigers centre Dan Bowden made the most of his time on the Franklin's Gardens pitch with a sin-bin offence for getting a tad overexcited with his challenge on Tom Collins.

At Allianz Park, Marcelo Bosch showed off a South American brand of passion for the hosts, warranting a yellow for his tip on Harlequins fly Nick Evans, but the quality of hits on display in the post-season fixtures was merely indicative of just how much these players were to take their place at Twickenham.

In France, Rene Ranger and Mathieu Bastareaud spent some time on the sidelines in their playoff semi-finals, going up against Castres and Racing Metro, respectively.

Ranger was especially eager to make things happen in Lille, seeing his caution just 13 seconds into the melee.

And there was an unfortunate encounter in Christchurch, where Jean Deysel was shown red in the first half of the Sharks' trip to the Crusaders, fortunately watching on as his side were able to outshine their hosts, even though they played with as few as 13 men for a time.

All that and more included in the biggest hits in rugby last weekend.
