These 20 Ex-Athletes Are Still Super Hot

When a pro athlete "retires," it rarely resembles the retirement of the average working man or woman. That’s assuming if the average person is able to retire at all.

Retirement for most Americans is, for all practical purposes, the on-ramp for the highway to Deadtown. You’re old, and you want to spend those golden years doing anything other than sitting at a desk or whatever it is that you spent most of your life doing to pay the bills.

For athletes, retirement is that stage of life that begins once their unique physical gifts can no longer earn them a paycheck alone—or when a tendon or bone abruptly decides it’s time to call it quits.

And while the retirement age as defined by the Social Security Administration is 67, when none of us are exactly at our best, most athletes retire well before the age of 40. So, life post-retirement for men and women who were most likely already in peak physical condition is not too shabby.

Rather than staying in shape just to punish their bodies, many are doing it for an endorsement deal or fashion spread. In short, a fair number of "retired" athletes manage to look even better after hanging it up.

Here are 20 ex-athletes who are still looking mighty fine.

Jennie Finch

    Name: Jennie Finch

    Sport: Softball

    Current Age: 33

    Retirement Year: 2010

For more than 10 years, American softball player Jennie Finch was the most captivating presence on the mound. She was the starting pitcher for the Olympic teams that won gold in Athens in 2004 and silver in Beijing four years later.

Since her retirement, she’s settled into family life with her husband and three children, but Finch still turns heads anytime she shows up anywhere.

Mark Schlereth

    Name: Mark Schlereth

    Sport: NFL

    Current Age: 48

    Retirement Year: 2000

In the case of ESPN’s Mark Schlereth, who last played guard for the Broncos in 2000, it’s not so much that he’s still super hot, but rather that he is actually hot now, as opposed to then.

Schlereth trimmed down substantially from his playing days after retiring, and it turned out there was a very hot man hiding well below the surface.

Oksana Baiul

    Name: Oksana Baiul

    Sport: Figure Skating

    Current Age: 36

    Retirement Year: 1994

Russian stunner Oksana Baiul captivated the world at the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer, defeating American favorite Nancy Kerrigan and capturing gold. At the time Baiul was 16 years old, but she didn’t look a day over 12.

Today she looks gorgeous and is barely recognizable as the gangly blonde teenager in the fur-accented pink costume she’s most often identified with.

Regina Halmich

    Name: Regina Halmich

    Sport: Boxing

    Retirement Year: 2007

Germany’s Regina Halmich is one of the most successful female boxers of all time, having retired in 2007 with a record of 54-1-1. Recently it was announced that she’d be one of the first inductees into the International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame.

Since retiring Halmich has become a red carpet regular on the German social and fashion scene, where she continues to be a showstopper. Can't imagine why...

Desmond Howard

    Name: Desmond Howard

    Sport: NFL

    Current Age: 44

    Retirement Year: 2002

It’s been over a decade since Desmond Howard retired from the NFL, and it’s been over two decades since he won the Heisman Trophy at Michigan back in 1991—which you’d never know from his megawatt smile.

Today Howard is one of ESPN’s most likable analysts and always looks like he’s having the most fun of anyone in the room.

Summer Sanders

    Sport: Swimming

    Current Age: 41

    Retirement Year: 1992

American swimmer Summer Sanders was one of the most decorated athletes at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, winning two gold medals, one silver and one bronze. It’s been over 20 years since Sanders last competed internationally, but she remains ever ready for bikini season.

    Name: Gina Carano

    Sport: MMA

    Current Age: 32

    Retirement Year: 2009

During her career in MMA, Gina Carano became one of the most recognizable faces and figures in the sport. Given her movie star good looks, it’s not surprising that Hollywood came calling for Carano.

Steve Yzerman

    Name: Steve Yzerman

    Sport: NHL

    Current Age: 49

    Retirement Year: 2006

Hockey players take a beating throughout their career, often retiring with far more scars and far fewer teeth than when they began.

Hall of Fame great Steve Yzerman played in the NHL for just under 25 years and miraculously walked away looking no worse for the wear. He’s closing in on 50 yet still looks better than a lot of guys who are playing today.

Dominique Dawes

    Name: Dominique Dawes

    Sport: Gymnastics

    Current Age: 37

    Retirement Year: 2000

Retired American gymnast Dominique Dawes spent 10 years a member of the U.S. national women’s team and was a member of the famed “Magnificent Seven,” who won all-around gold at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 20 years since she made history in Atlanta—particularly given how amazing she still looks.

Laila Ali

    Name: Laila Ali

    Sport: Boxing

    Current Age: 36

    Retirement Year: 2007

It’s been seven years since Laila Ali retired as the undefeated Super Middleweight Champion, ending her career with a 24-0 record.

Although she has settled down with former NFL player Curtis Conway, with whom she has two children, Ali hasn’t exactly let herself go. In fact, she’s done anything but, as is stunningly apparent in this post-workout photo she recently posted to Instagram.

Jim Harbaugh

    Name: Jim Harbaugh

    Sport: NFL

    Current Age: 50

    Retirement Year: 2001

Niners coach Jim Harbaugh only gets better with age—like a fine wine…a really angry fine wine. He was kind of your run-of-the-mill bro during his playing days but has really come into his own as a coach. Harbaugh seems to have a lot of rage, and he makes rage look very good.

Stacy Keibler

    Name: Stacy Keibler

    Sport: WWE

    Current Age: 34

    Retirement Year: 2006

With long blonde hair, a beautiful face and legs that go on for days, Stacy Keibler remains one of the most popular WWE Divas ever—years after her retirement.

Since climbing out of the ring for good in 2006, Keibler has found work as an actress and model—more than enough to catch the eye of movie star George Clooney, who she dated for two years.

Katarina Witt

    Name: Katarina Witt

    Sport: Figure Skating

    Current Age: 48

    Retirement Year: 1994

German figure skater Katarina Witt won gold at the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo and then again four years later in Calgary. A certified sex symbol in her prime, she posed nude for Playboy in 1998 at the age of 33—no wonder her nickname was “sex on skates.” Since then time has passed, but it has yet to pass Witt by.

Reggie Miller

    Name: Reggie Miller

    Sport: NBA

    Current Age: 48

    Retirement Year: 2005

He may not be the most exciting NBA broadcaster out there, but Pacers great Reggie Miller's laid-back lifestyle has clearly served him well. He’s closing in on 50 and looks every bit as good as he did in his playing days. Charles Barkley should start taking notes.

Anna Semenovich

16 of 21

    Name: Anna Semenovich

    Sport: Figure Skating

    Current Age: 34

    Retirement Year: 2001

Although her accomplishments within the sport were minimal over the course of her seven-year career, retired Russian ice dancer Anna Semenovich has been a fixture on lists of the sexiest female athletes for as long as they’ve existed online.

She went on to a successful pop singing career in Russia. Semenovich is still singing and modeling today and is fantastically active on Instagram. Obviously she still looks great.

Gabby Reece

17 of 21

    Name: Gabby Reece

    Sport: Beach Volleyball

    Current Age: 44

    Retirement Year: 2000

Gabby Reece was one of the most popular and prominent female athletes of the 90s. After graduating from Florida State, she went on to forge a very successful career as a beach volleyball player and model.

She posed nude for Playboy in 2001 and two years later had her first child. Today Reece remains passionate about fitness, with several business ventures devoted to it. And…it shows.

Jason Taylor

18 of 21

    Name: Jason Taylor

    Sport: NFL

    Current Age: 39

    Retirement Year: 2011

Former NFL linebacker Jason Taylor is as ridiculously handsome as has anyone who has ever played professional sports. Linebacker isn’t known as a position that attracts the lookers either, making him stand out all the more as a diamond in a very meaty rough.

Lisa Leslie

19 of 21

    Name: Lisa Leslie

    Sport: WNBA

    Current Age: 41

    Retirement Year: 2009

When Lisa Leslie retired from the WNBA in 2009, she ended what was unquestionably one of the greatest careers of any female professional athlete in history. She won four Olympic gold medals, was a three-time MVP and was the first player ever to dunk in the WNBA.

At 6’5" Leslie is statuesque and stunning—and it doesn’t look like she’s aged a day in the last two decades.

Anna Kournikova

    Name: Anna Kournikova

    Sport: Tennis

    Current Age: 32

    Retirement Year: 2003

Despite accomplishing next to nothing in her singles career before an injury forced her retirement at age 22, Russian tennis goddess Anna Kournikova remained one of the most popular female athletes in the world for years.

She’s not the worldwide sensation she once was, but it seems retirement has been good to Kournikova, who is somehow hotter today than she was 10 years ago.

Sasha Cohen

    Name: Sasha Cohen

    Sport: Figure Skating

    Current Age: 29

    Retirement Year: 2006/2010

American figure skater Sasha Cohen first retired after a disappointing fourth-place finish at the 2006 Olympics in Torino. She attempted a comeback in 2010, failing to make the Olympic team. Cohen looked every bit the ice princess during her career, but has since grown up and looks better than ever.
