Johnny Flynn and Ricky Rubio Analysis: Why Two Point Guards Was the Way To Go

NEW YORK - JUNE 25: NBA Commissioner David Stern poses for a photograph with the fifth overall draft pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Ricky Rubio during the 2009 NBA Draft at the Wamu Theatre at Madison Square Garden June 25, 2009 in New York City. Why Drafting Both Was a Brilliant Idea

Let's go outside the box here, and let's look at the roster. Without Rubio and Flynn, the Wolves would have a backcourt of Sebastian Telfair, and Bobby Brown. Yeah.. Did you forget Randy Foye and Mike Miller was traded? Sebastian is 6'0'' and Bobby Brown is 6'2''. Rodney Carney might not be back, and we don't know how Corey Brewer is going to fare.

I'm sorry but it really just seems like the right thing to do. What were we going to do, draft Jordan Hill? We have too many forwards as it is! Getting Derozan at 6 would be utterly stupid, when we could get another talented point guard. I believe the T'Wolves would have taken Jennings before they taken Derozan.

Flynn and Rubio obviously were the top 2 on their draft boards...And they got the top 2 on their draft boards...You see where I'm going with this? When does a team have their top 2 picks in the top 10, actually selected? I'm not saying that they are going to play these two side by side or anything, I don't know yet. But all I'm saying is when you draft someone who can be the future franchise player of your organization, you take the best player available for your next pick, all the time, EVERYTIME.

It really compels me to think that these two could cease to exist, but as Rubio has stated, he wants to play a lot of minutes right now. I see Flynn being the backup if he is kept. I really see Flynn as being someone that is going to be traded for one or maybe even two players, maybe some sharpshooters, or maybe a veteran SG.

The next few days will be decisive and informative, I just hope that the Wolves don't trade away any possible future franchise players named Ricky Rubio. Though I seriously doubt David Kahn will, after giving up Foye and Miller, and really...truthfully, I think he likes his job so far...
