Arsenal Transfer News and Rumors Tracker: Week of May 19
Now that the euphoria of an FA Cup trophy has finally settled in and simmered, we can step back from the club's dramatic triumph in the final and look ahead to this summer.
It's going to be a monumental one in the history of the club, as several old heads will have to be replaced and some areas of the team still need to be strengthened.
We'll track all the rumors here as we look to get a better hold on what, if anything, Arsene Wenger will be doing with his large transfer budget now.
Arsene Wenger Ready to Seal His Future for 3 Years
Following his first trophy in nine years, Arsene Wenger is reportedly set to be rewarded with a three-year deal worth about £24 million.
So says Jeremy Wilson of The Telegraph, at least.
It might be the great manager's final contract, and it is well-deserved. That length gives him enough time to entice new players to come to the club and start building the foundation for lasting success when he departs.
Arsenal just aren't ready for Wenger to leave quite yet, and it appears that he is quite happy to go on for a little while longer.
Arsenal Interested in Angel di Maria
Angel di Maria's name is familiar to many consistent followers of Arsenal transfer rumors. The skilled Argentine left winger is frequently linked with the Gunners, but they can never seem to pull the trigger.
However, according to John Cross of the Mirror, this summer might be different. Apparently, Arsenal are one of a number of rich clubs interested in purchasing di Maria, who would be a very useful addition to any side in the world.
Arsenal could certainly use reinforcements on the left side, but it is not one of their most urgent needs.
With Wenger, though, who knows.
Serge Aurier Targeted as Bacary Sagna Replacement
Bacary Sagna will unfortunately not be an Arsenal player at the start of next season, and he officially hits the open market in a few weeks. It would be wise to start looking for replacements.
Ben Burrows of the Mirror reports that the Gunners have targeted 21-year-old Serge Aurier. The Frenchman plays in Ligue 1 and was named in the Team of the Year, but he is still vastly inexperienced and would need to adapt very quickly to the much more physical and faster Premier League.
Aurier would be available for a relatively cheap price of about £7 million, but Arsenal have to evaluate just what they need to replace Sagna and if this young starlet currently is up to snuff.
