Big 7th Inning Gives Rays Blowout Win in Baltimore

Steven WynockerCorrespondent IApril 30, 2008

The Rays offense finally packed a solid punch Wednesday to give them an 8-1 victory over their division rival Baltimore Orioles. Andy Sonnanstine got his 4th victory of the month of April going 8 strong innings.  This win gives him a great shot to stay in the rotation with the return of Kazmir.

Eric Hinske finished April the same way he started with a home run to right.  He has been the best hitter for the Rays thus far in the season. Dioner Navarro and BJ Upton added to the scoring with two hits a piece.  Carlos Pena went 1-5 with 2 RBIs.

The Rubber match will take place tomorrow at 12:35 with Matt Garza squaring up against lefty Brian Burres.  Garza will look to get his first win as a Ray.

With Boston beating Toronto tonight, Baltimore and Tampa Bay trail by 1 game in the east.  New York and Toronto both lost ground to end the month of April.
