The Minnesota Timberwolves have selected Spanish G Ricky Rubio with the fifth pick in the NBA Draft.

They were rumored to have been interested in trading up as far as No. 2 to be assured of selecting him. After Memphis selected C Hasheem Thabeet, Oklahoma City selected James Harden, and Sacramento selected Tyreek Evans, it cleared the way for them to select Rubio.

After a trade that shipped out starting G's Randy Foye and Mike Miller, Rubio is expected to fill the void at SG for the Timberwolves.

Rubio has been a professional basketball player since the age of 14 and has loads of potential at the ripe old age of 18.

With the No. 6 pick the Timberwolves selected PG Jonny Flynn with their second consecutive pick. The Timberwolves also still have the No. 16 and No. 28 picks in the first round.

The Timberwolves brain trust has promised some draft day action in regards to trades, and we could see them move up into the top ten shortly.
