KANSAS CITY, MO - SEPTEMBER 14: Kirk Morrison #52 and Nnamdi Asomugha #21 of the Oakland Raiders celebrate on the field during their NFL game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on September 14, 2008 in Kansas City, Missouri. The Raiders

The Raiders have a great opportunity to have a solid defense this year that will keep them in every game. Defense wins championships, and the Raiders could very well have a championship defense. There are many players that will help the Raiders defense, some of them aren't even on that side of the ball. Here are some keys for the Raiders to have a top 5 defense.

Starsky & Hutch and Huggy Bear

Our Running Trio has yet to have an official name, I sat next to Huggy bear senior last year vs Atlanta. I like this Idea for the guys. That said, these guys will be essential to keeping our defense fresh. If we can pound the ball and keep our defense on the sidelines resting, our defense will be a force.

The Law offices of Morrison and Howard

These guys are a blast to watch. They have size, speed and strength. A couple seasons ago they were among the leaders in interceptions. They are playmakers. This season they will have to make more plays.

The Cornerbacks

We know what to expect from Asomugha and Chris Johnson delivered last year. Watch for these guys to be ball hawks, and to make more plays this year.

Shane Lechler

Shane Lechler is the best in the business. If he can continue to pin the oposing team deep in their own territory it will make it harder for their offense to do what they want to do.

The Safeties

The Safeties are a big question mark right now. Asomugha made a statement today that got me excited. During his NFL.com interview with the fans he mentioned that Michael Huff was having a great offseason and he expects him to be a big surprise this season. Michael Mitchell is young, and there is still people scratching their heads with the pick, but I have a feeling people will be trying to keep their heads on when the season starts with this guy.

Jamarcus Russell

I don't care what anyone says, this guy is a stud and will be our QB for years to come. If he can keep the offense on the field and reduce the offensive turnovers and not put our D in a bad spot, our defensive will love Jam Master J.

The Big Guys

MIAMI - NOVEMBER 16: Defenders Kalimba Edwards #58 and Tommy Kelly #93 of the Oakland Raiders celebrate a safety against quarterback Chad Pennington #10 of the Miami Dolphins at Dolphin Stadium November 16, 2008 in Miami, Florida. Miami defeated Oakland 1

Plain and Simple Stop the run

Defensive Ends

DENVER - NOVEMBER 23: Derrick Burgess #56 of the Oakland Raiders rushes against the Denver Broncos during week 12 NFL action at Invesco Field at Mile High on November 23, 2008 in Denver, Colorado. Fargas rushed for 107 yards as the Raiders defeated the B

This is the position that excites me the most. You have Greg Ellis coming in from the Cowboys. Jay Richardson who is a good situational pass rusher. Trevor Scott who is going to make us all forget about not drafting . . . whats that guys name . . . Chris Long. The most important piece of the puzzle is Derrick Burgess. We can trade him this year for a third rounder maybe second, or we can hold on to him during his contract year. He wants out and wants to get paid. If he wants money, he will have to produce big numbers and not get hurt. To me, this is a no brainer keep him. If we can get to the QB, it will help our Secondary out with INT's and even our ball hawk Linebackers. We have a lot of talent on that side of the ball. Top 5 is more than attainable.
