Clint Bowyer secured his ticket into Saturday night’s $1 million prize Sprint All-Star Race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina, winning the 40-lap Sprint Showdown on Friday night.

Bowyer, who started the race in fourth position, snagged the lead from AJ Allmendinger on lap 19, just before the halftime break between the two 20-lap segments. He would go on to lead 17 of the 20 laps in the second segment and guarantee his entry into Saturday night’s main event.

Allmendinger led nearly the whole way through in the first segment before being passed by Bowyer just before the competition caution flag. With a second-place finish, he’ll also move on to Saturday night’s race.

The third and final spot on Friday night was awarded by fan voting. Many expected that slot to go to Danica Patrick, who won last year’s fan vote and finished 10th in the Showdown, but it wasn’t to be for her this year.

Josh Wise, who finished 18th in Charlotte Friday night, was the choice of the fans, and he joins Bowyer and Allmendinger in rounding out the field.
