Smackdown Xplosion 6/26: All on The Line For The Hardy Boyz...Edge vs. Kurt Angle
Last week, there was an amazing extreme battle royal. What are the aftereffects?
The Canadian Connection (Edge, Chris Jericho, Petey Williams) seems to have their sights on gold. Can Edge defeat Angle at the Bash, or will the New Event Mafia get in his way? The Rock could weasel his way into the match with his GM powers. Will he do it? Jericho and Petey have a title shot against Team 3D for the tag titles, but they have to beat The Great Muta and KENTA of The Japanese Experience (The Great Muta, KENTA, Masato Yoshino, Tajiri, Takuya Sugi). Can they do it?
Jimmy Rave attacked A.J. Styles, the X Division Champion, last week. What does this mean, for Styles and for Rave?
Match card:
Shelton Benjamin/Charlie Haas vs. RVD/?
Canadian Connection (Chris Jericho& Petey Williams) vs. The Great Muta and KENTA vs. The Hardy Boyz (FutureTag Team title shot)
Jimmy Rave vs. Ben Satterly (X Division title shot)
Edge vs. Kurt Angle
Opening Segment: Canadian Connection (Edge, Chris Jericho, Petey Williams)
(Chris Jericho, Edge, and Petey Williams stand in the ring)
Edge (with microphone): After the Bash, the Canadian Connection will have something to talk about; championship gold.
Jericho (on microphone): Tonight, you hypocrites will see why the Canadian Hardy Boyz are so great, as myelf and Peter William Hardy take on those Japanese scum, Muta and KENTA.
(Crowd boos)
Jericho: We will beat them, and go on to become WWE Tag Team Champions, because that’s just how great Canadians are, and that’s just how much Americans SUCK!
(LOTS of heat from the crowd; chants of “USA!” are heard all over the arena)
Edge: We don’t care what you people say, we do what we want, when we want, because we’re just that awesome.
(More boos; chants of “Angle Rules!”)
Edge: Whoa whoa, hold your horses, eh! You know Kurt Angle SUCKS! You all know I will be World Champion at the Bash, because you’re all fat failure turtles, and you curl up in your shells of self-pity and disappointment, because you know you’ll never be a pro-wrestler, and you won’t be a World champion *smirks*.
(Crowd boos a lot; The Rock comes out to a big pop)
The Rock: You people deserve a lot more. The Rock was on vacation for about a week or two, and now Smackdown is being overtaken by those cheap Hardy Boyz rip-offs, and to top it off, their leader is supposedly the Rated-R Superstar, but I think he’s the Rated-G Bumblebee.
(Lots of laughs)
Edge: What gives, man? I’m the Rated-R Superstar, not some damn Rated-G Bumblebee! Now, moving on…
Rock: Hold on! The Rock never said that you could ignore him. Actually, The Rock has a stipulation; if you lose tonight against Kurt Angle, then The Rock will be part of the title match at the Bash. Who’s the fat failure turtle now?
Edge: Hold up, bucko! You can’t just put yourself in a match at the Bash!
Rock: The Rock just did, jabroni!
(Rock leaves)
Joey Styles: What a statement from The Rock! If Edge loses tonight against his Bash opponent, then The Rock becomes part of the match at the Bash.
Don West: Joey, am I a fat failure turtle?
Joey Styles:…
(Commercial break: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n9PpwjiQ8M: Different people voiced sponsoring Alfac: Smackdown is sponsored by Aflac)
Segment #2: Hail Destroyer (Smackdown theme) Peformed Live!
Don West: Welcome back to Smackdown!
Joey Styles: But, tonight, we have the Cancer Bats performing the Smackdown theme song, “Hail Destroyer”! WWE Universe, please welcome, from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the Cancer Bats!
(Camera cuts to the Bats)
Liam Cormier (singer):
Tear us down.
Welcome destruction with open arms.
It's all too static. Bring it on, bring it on.
Routine's so boring it makes me scream.
Tear us down, just tear us down.
When fate just pushes us along.
Children of nothing, this is our song.
Hail destroyer. Hail destroyer. Hail destroyer.
We're rising up from ashes…
(Crowd cheers)
Styles: This is insane!
West: This is such an awesome song!
(Cancer Bats ends song; standing ovation from crowd)
Cormier: Thank you very much.
(Cancer Bats leave)
Joey Styles: What an amazing performance by the Cancer Bats! You can buy the album “Hail Destroyer” from any CD outlet if you would like to listen to “Hail Destroyer”!
Don West: Right now, The World’s Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin &Charlie Haas) will take on RVD and his mystery opponent…we take you backstage with Jeremy Borash with RVD.
Segment #3: Jeremy Borash with RVD
(Camera changes to Borash)
Borash: Hello, everyone. I’m here with the man who will fight Shelton Benjamin at the Bash for the Legends Championship, the Whole Damn Show, Rob Van Dam. Rob, who’s your partner tonight?
RVD: I can’t tell, but I’ll give you a hint; all he knows is hardcore.
Borash: Another question; who will win at the Bash?
RVD: Not giving any hints, but it might just steal…The…Whole…Damn…Show.
(Crowd cheers)
Borash: Thank you for your time.
Match #1: RVD/? vs. Shelton Benjamin/Charlie Haas w/Kevin Nash
(“Ain’t No Stoppin’ Me” plays and Shelton Benjamin/Charlie Haas w/Kevin Nash come out)
Mean Gene: The following contest is a tag team set for one fall. Making their way to the ring…accompanied by Kevin Nash…Shelton Benjamin. Charlie Haas. The World’s Greatest Tag Team.
(Shelton grabs microphone from Gene)
Shelton: Now, I will become Legends Champion at the Bash, but there is one man…no, two men who are against me. Rob Van Dam and Kurt Angle.
(Crowd boos)
Shelton Benjamin: RVD wants to play hard ball, I’ll play hard ball. Whatever it-
(“One of A Kind” by Breaking Point plays and RVD comes out).
RVD: Benjamin, I’ve been around the block a few times, and you aren’t exactly the nicest guy in the locker room. In fact, Kurt Angle has actually turned them all against you, and he’s forcing Nash and Haas to stick with you. So I wouldn’t mess with anyone right now, or you could leave real quick. Back to E-C-W!
(Crowd cheers)
RVD: Paul Heyman, I don’t like the ECW brand. You give the ECW Championship to a guy who isn’t even extreme. Why don’t I be ECW Champion?
RVD: Anyways, my partner is here tonight, and he will win the Monster’s Ball at the Bash. Ladies and gentlemen, Sabu!
(Sabu doesn’t come out)
RVD: Umm…hehe…
Shelton Benjamin: Hahaha! You can’t back your talk in the ring!
(RVD is attacked by Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, and Kevin Nash)
Shelton: Watch what you say next time, RVD.
(He punts RVD)
RVD: Unhhh!
Joey Styles: We need medical personnel!
Don West: Help! Help!
(Screen fades out)
Styles: Welcome back to Smackdown, where RVD was taken to hospital after an assault by Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, and Kevin Nash.
(Replay is shown; during commercial Haas hit RVD with a chair)
Don West: That is just sickening.
Segment #4: Jimmy Rave Addresses His Actions
(“Give It To Me Jimmy” plays and Jimmy Rave comes out to LOTS of heat)
Rave: Tonight, I want to address the man I screwed over, X Division Champion A.J. Styles. Now, as you all know, I dressed up as a masked man and eliminated A.J. Styles from the battle royal last week, allowing Edge to become #1 contender for Kurt Angle’s title.
(Crowd boos)
Rave: So, I want to fight A.J. for the title!
(Ben Satterly comes out to a HUGE pop)
Satterly: Wait in line, Jimmy, because I’m #1 contender for the X Division championship!
(“My Time Is Now” plays and John Cena comes out to boos)
John Cena: You both need to calm down, because I still haven’t used my rematch clause from Extreme Rules, so I’m next in line to fight Styles!
((I Am)”Get Ready To Fly” by GRITS plays and A.J. Styles comes to lots of cheers)
A.J. Styles: Now, before any of you boys go at it, I’ll make myself clear; I take on all comers and challengers. So, at Night of Champions, John, you will face me…and the winner of this match! Ben Satterly, your contendership is on the line!
(Crowd is ecstatic; “Know Your Role” by Method Man plays and Rock comes out)
Rock: The Rock likes that idea, so tonight, it’s gonna be Ben Satterly vs. Jimmy Rave!
(Rock leaves; bell is rung three times)
Match #2: Ben Satterly vs. Jimmy Rave- #1 contendership for A.J. Styles' X Division Championship
Rave charges at Satterly, but is met with a series of punches. After about 5 punches, Jimmy Rave fights back with kicks, then hits a heel kick. He goes for the pin, but gets a 1-count. Rave stomps on Ben, picks him up, and Irish Whips him. Satterly uses good strategy by rolling off of Rave’s back, but topples over the ropes and hits the floor. He lands on his feet, jumps to the apron, and hits a shooting star press DDT.
Ben Satterly gets a 2-count.
To wear down Rave, Ben applies a headlock. He pulls Rave to his feet while still applying the submission. Satterly runs up the turnbuckle and backflips into a reverse DDT headlock. Rave becomes limp after about two minutes. The referee raises his hand…1…2…no! Rave gets enough strength to pull himself up and spin Satterly into a 720-degree spinning neckbreaker.
Gasps of “Holy Shit” fill the arena.
Rave jumps over the ropes at Cena, who just ran down the ramp. Cena falls, and X Division Champion A.J. Styles rushes down the ramp to pounce on Cena.
While Cena and Styles brawl outside the ring, Rave jumps back onto the apron and hits a plancha onto Satterly. He goes for the pin, but Ben quickly rolls him up for a pin, but Rave barely stops the pin. Both men are on one knee, trading punches. They manage to grasp their posture, now trading kicks to the mid-section.
Both high-flyers trade a roundhouse kick, and then connect both feet after a double kick attempt. Assuming the other is knocked down, Satterly and Rave both run to opposing turnbuckles. Satterly attempts a moonsault elbow drop, while Rave goes for a suicide dive. Once the two death-defyers meet, Satterly’s elbow drives Rave’s neck to the ground, while Rave’s head is forced into Satterly’s upper body.
Both men are knocked out, so the referee starts the count…1…2…3…4…
Meanwhile, Cena brutalized Styles with a steel chair.
5…6…
Cena slides into the ring.
7…
Cena waits for the count.
8…9…Cena hits Rave and Satterly with the chair, thus provoking a double-DQ.
(The bell is rung; a draw is declared)
Cena stands above the best of the X Division to a LOT of heat…and in an instant, The Rock comes out to address Cena’s actions.
Rock: The Rock knew what you were trying to do, Cena, trying to get a draw so you could have a one-on-one match with A.J. Styles. That means that the title shot belongs to the original owner, Ben Satterly. Here’s what the Rock will do. At Victory Road, there will be a 4-way Ulitimate X match…John Cena vs. A.J. Styles…vs. Ben Satterly and Jimmy Rave!
(Crowd goes wild)
Rock: If ya smelllllllllllllllllllllllllllll…what the Rock. Is. Cooking.
(Rock leaves)
Joey Styles: Wow! What an announcement!
Don West: A 4-man Ultimate X match! I can’t wait!
Styles: Coming up next, the team of Chris Hardy and Pete Hardy (Chris Jericho and Petey Williams) will take on The Great Muta and KENTA, plus the Hardy Boyz, in a
Triangle Ladder match for a shot at Team 3D’s titles!
Segment #5: Tajiri and Jimmy Wang Yang
(Camera shows backstage; Jimmy Wang Yang is hanging around when Tajiri approaches him)
Tajiri: Hey, Jimmy-dono, I just wanted to apologize about attacking you these past couple of weeks.
Jimmy Wang Yang: Thank you for the apologies.
Tajiri: So, can you back us up in the Triangle Ladder match?
Jimmy: I’ll try my best.
Tajiri: That’s all I needed to hear. Sayonara, Jimmy-dono!
(Camera zooms in on Mean Gene)
Match #3: Triangle Ladder match- #1 contender's match- The Hardy Boyz vs. The Great Muta/KENTA vs. Chris Jericho/Petey Williams
Mean Gene: The following contest is a Triangle Ladder match. The person who will retrieve the briefcase at the top of the ladder will earn their team a shot at the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship!
(“Break The Walls Down” plays and Chris Jericho/Petey Williams walk down the ramp)
Mean Gene: Introducing, from Canada, Chris Jericho Hardy. Pete William Hardy. The-
(Jericho/Petey are attacked by KENTA/Muta)
Match #3:#1 contendership for the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship: Chris Jericho and Petey Williams vs. The Hardy Boyz vs. The Great Muta and KENTA:
While Jericho brawls with KENTA and Petey fights Muta, Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy rush down to the ring and search for ladders. Jeff finds a 10-foot ladder and throws it at the fighters, knocking them to the floor. Matt grabs a 20-footer and slides it into the ring. Matt enter the ring, sets up the ladder and climbs it.
Jimmy Wang Yang and Tajiri sprint down to the ring and try to stop Matt. Meanwhile, Jeff slides into the ring with a 15-foot ladder. While Yang tries to stop Matt from getting the contract by scaling the ladder, Jeff positions the ladder into the turnbuckle, climbs onto the top rope, and attempts a slingshot dropkick from the ladder, hitting Jimmy and forcing him to fall onto Tajiri.
Chris Jericho has KENTA beaten to a bloody pulp and slowly climbs to the top turnbuckle. He readies himself, and executes a missile dropkick, knocking Matt Hardy and the ladder over. Jericho lands hard in the ring and stays down. Masato Yoshino, Kota Ibushi, and Takuya Sugi comes out from the back and pounce on Petey Williams, prompting a four-on-one attack on Maple Leaf Muscle.
Jimmy Wang Yang and Tajiri struggle to get up. Meanwhile, the crowd sees signs of life in Chris Jericho and Jeff Hardy, while Matt Hardy is knocked out, and KENTA is almost to his feet. Finally, KENTA can support himself easily, and slides into the ring. He picks up the fallen ladder, looks around the ring, and decides to dropkick Jeff Hardy out of the ring and push Matt onto the floor. What he doesn’t realize, is that Chris Jericho is right behind him. KENTA whips around and Jericho hits a picture perfect Codebreaker (double knee facebuster).
KENTA falls to the floor, and Jericho taunts to the crowd, getting a mixed reaction. He grins, grabs the 20-foot ladder, and positions it in the middle of the ring. He climbs to the top, but then The Great Muta jumps into the ring and knocks the ladder over, but Jericho hangs onto the briefcase. Kota Ibushi, Takuya Sugi, and Masato Yoshino realize this and enter the ring one at a time. Masato jumps onto The Great Muta’s shoulders, Takuya follows suit, as well as Kota, and they form a human ladder.
Kota Ibushi grabs hold of Jericho’s leg, but Jericho won’t let go of the hook and the briefcase. Y2J almost unlocks the briefcase, but he is pulled down by Kota Ibushi. Petey Williams finally stands on two feet after a 4-on-one brawl, but is attacked by Jimmy Wang Yang and Tajiri, while in the ring, Kota Ibushi tries to grab the briefcase. Suddenly, Amazing Red flies down the stage ramp to a HUGE pop into the ring, scales up the human ladder, and pushes off Kota’s shoulders, grabbing onto the hook. Ibushi falls, and the human ladder loses its balance. Red pulls the briefcase down and wins a shot at Team 3D.
Winner: Amazing Red
Don West: Unbelievable! That was an amazing match, with a surprising ending!
Joey Styles: I wonder what Amazing Red will do with the contract, since he doesn’t have a tag partner…
(Red escapes from the ring)
Joey Styles: Anyways, coming up next is champion vs. challenger in a non-title match. Kurt Angle vs. Edge. That is next.
Match #4: Edge vs. Kurt Angle
Joey Styles: And we’re back on Smackdown! Right now, it’s champion vs. challenger. Kurt Angle vs. Edge. No rules whatsoever.
(Camera moves to Titantron; Kurt Angle is talking on a cell phone)
Kurt Angle: No, it’s tonight! Are you sure you’ll make it?? Okay…GOODBYE!
(Angle hangs up cell phone)
Edge: Didn’t think I knew? Scott Steiner is on Smackdown now.
(Edge is behind Angle; Angle turns around to face his Bash opponent)
Angle: I’m not taking your crap! Steiner is still on ECW.
Edge: Okay, then…*punches Angle*
(Angle punches him back and a brawl starts)
Match #4: Edge vs. Kurt Angle:
Edge and Angle start punching the crap out of each other. Soon, Gary Williams comes along and both men attack Kurt. John Cena tries to help Angle, but is tackled by A.J. Styles, who had been trying to attack John all night. Edge grabs a slice of pizza and throws it at Angle’s face, covering him in pizza goo.
Kevin Nash and Shelton Benjamin soon get into the festivities, and the fight erupts. An injured RVD walks down the hallway where the fighting is happening. In the middle of it all is his opponent at the Bash. Van Dam feels pain and anger. He makes a quick search of the area and finds a steel chair. Rob runs and hits the Gold Standard with a Chair Surf to the back.
The brawl evens out, allowing Angle and Edge to take the fight elsewhere. Sting rushes at Edge, but deliberately misses and smashes Angle in the head with a baseball bat. Realizing what he just did, Sting runs away and drops the baseball bat. Edge picks it up and starts bashing Kurt with it.
The locker room has been divided, as the Hardy Boyz limp backstage, but are ambushed by Team 3D. Another brawl erupts, with Charlie Haas and Mexican Suicide (El Generico and Mil Mascaras) trading blows. Jimmy Rave is walking in the background, with Ben Satterly sitting on a ladder. Rave looks up, and is attacked with a cross-body from Satterly. Both high-flyers use all means necessary, but cannot destroy the other permanently.
Christopher Daniels gets into the fight, attacking Kurt Angle, but is met by Super Dragon. Both trade blows, with Super Dragon getting the upper hand using a cartwheel moonsault on Daniels. He stomps on Daniels repeatedly, climbs the ladder, and attempts a diving Dragon’s Fire (450 corkscrew splash), but Daniels catches his arms in mid-air and executes Angel Wings (spinning lifting Pedigree(double underhook facebuster)).
The locker room area is filled with battered and bruised wrestlers. Meanwhile, Kurt Angle and Edge are wearing down and trade slower punches. Edge suddenly hits Kurt Angle with a powerful spear, knocking him down to the floor. Both lay in the sea of bodies. The referee spots them and motions fro them to get to the ring, but they lay knocked out.
(Commercial break: Edge promo + Randy Orton promo + Kurt Angle promo + Christian promo)
After the commercial break, we see Edge dragging Kurt Angle out to the crowd to a mixed reaction. The Rated-R Superstar places Kurt in a fireman’s carry and runs through the crowd to the ring. He jumps the barricade and throws Angle into the ring. Edge goes for a pin. 1...2…no! Kurt Angle just kicked out! Fatigue is wearing in, as Edge becomes infuriated. He walks over to the corner and waits for Angle to get up.
Angle struggles to get up. Edge becomes even more deranged; he yells at Angle “C’mon!” Angle finally gets on one knee. Edge cannot wait; he wants to destroy Kurt Angle. After about two minutes, Angle gets up, and Edge hits him with an amazing spear and pin. 1..2…the referee is dragged out by Charlie Haas, who argues that Angle is in no shape to fight the match. All of a sudden, Scott Steiner enters the ring and breaks up Edge’s pin.
Steiner taunts to the crowd, and gets a mixed reaction. He picks the tired Edge, lifts him up, and hits a powerbomb. The Genetic Freak drags Angle onto Edge and leaves the arena to a sea of boos. Charlie Haas tells the referee to count the pin, so the ref slides in. 1…2…3. Angle wins.
Winner: Kurt Angle
Joey Styles: Kurt Angle wins! That means at the Bash, it’ll be Kurt Angle vs. Edge…vs. The Rock.
Don West: What a match! Thank you for watching Smackdown Xplosion and we hope to see you Sunday at the Bash!
