A Brilliant Goal You Wont Have Seen: Mads Stokkelien (Ik Start) vs Sandefjord

Mads Stokkelien. Remember the name.

After just 421 minutes of top-flight Norwegian football, the 19-year-old striker is rapidly making a name for himself in the Tippeligaen having scored an amazing five goals in just eight matches since making his debut for Ik Start this season.

Wednesday night saw Stokkelien place his latest feather in his cap.

Playing against Sandefjord at home, Start were trailing 2-1 with just over 12 minutes remaining before a stunning scissors-kick from Stokkelien brought the hosts back level. With Stokkelien lurking dangerously at the back post, Start built an attack down the right-hand side. Eventually the ball was chipped over to the back post where Stokkelien, who had peeled off his marker, brilliantly executed the acrobatic shot on target.

Clinical, powerful and accurate, Sandefjord keeper Espen Bugge Pettersen stood no chance in keeping the ball out. And, to make matters better, Start then went on the claim a late win thanks to Fevang’s 85th minute spot-kick.

There was a second brilliant goal scored on Wednesday night which also deserves specific mention, after Colombia’s Copa Mustang final first-leg between Once Caldas and Atletico Junior was lit up buy a spectacular long-range missile from Nondier Romero.

The hosts needed just 26 minutes to break the deadlock through Romero’s incredible strike from 35-yards. The full-back, found pressing high up the right-hand side of the pitch, managed to pick up a wayward pass in his opponent’s half. And once in possession Romero needed little encouragement to let rip, the number four rifling off a howitzer that seemed to gather pace and direction towards the top-corner mid-flight.

Reminiscent of one of the greatest World Cup goals of all-time (watch here), Nondier Romero’s wonder-strike against Atletico Junior can be seen here.
