With a 63rd-minute goal by defender Daniel Agger on Sunday against Newcastle United, Liverpool joined Manchester City in the English Premier League's 100-goal club this season. For the first time since 1961, two clubs in England's top flight have reached the 100-goal plateau in the same campaign, per ESPN FC.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge added a goal two minutes after Agger's, putting Liverpool's season-long total at 101, one goal behind Manchester City's final tally of 102. City triumphed 2-0 in Sunday's finale against West Ham United, after reaching the 100-goal mark in a 4-0 drubbing of Aston Villa on May 7.

Unsurprisingly, Manchester City took home the Premier League trophy, while Liverpool finished second, just two points behind the Citizens.

Despite both clubs eclipsing the century mark, neither was able to match the Premier League record of 103 goals, which was set by Chelsea in 2009-10. The Blues finished a more modest third in both points and goals this season, tallying 71 goals and 82 points, with the latter leaving them two points short of Liverpool and four behind City.

Liverpool's season-long scoring barrage was led by striker Luis Suarez, who tied the Premier League 38-game single-season record with 31 goals, none of which came from the penalty spot. The second-leading scorer in the league was Sturridge, whose 21 goals made him and Suarez the highest-scoring teammates in Premier League history.

Manchester City finished the campaign with three of the top-six scorers in England, with Yaya Toure leading the team at 20 goals, Sergio Aguero finishing with 17, and Edin Dzeko scoring 16, including five in the last four matches of the season.
