Manchester United Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of May 12

    The season might be over, but it's just the start of what promises to be a busy summer for Manchester United.

    The club is looking for a new manager and a host of new arrivals to help it recover from a season which has seen it finish seventh in the Premier League.

    All eyes will be on Louis van Gaal, who will lead Holland at this summer's World Cup, to see if he is the man chosen to lead United's rebuild.

    The Manchester Evening News carry the story that Rio Ferdinand will leave Old Trafford this summer. The former England defender's contract expired at the end of the season.

    There are also quotes from Marco Reus in the Manchester Evening News suggesting the Borussia Dortmund midfielder will turn down a move to United this summer.

    Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror are reporting United are close to sealing a £25 million move for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw as they look for a replacement for Patrice Evra.

    On Tuesday, Louis van Gaal refused to comment on mounting speculation he is set to be confirmed as United's new manager.

    Speaking at a training camp ahead of the World Cup, and carried by the Manchester Evening News, Van Gaal refused to answer questions about the United job.

    The Manchester Evening News are also reporting the club are hoping to tie up a deal for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw before the start of the World Cup.

    Meanwhile, the Daily Express believe United are battling with Juventus for Benfica midfielder Enzo Perez.

    As speculation continued that United are set to appoint Louis van Gaal imminently, the Manchester Evening News reported that Ryan Giggs was spotted in Holland after jetting in for talks with the manager-in-waiting.

    The Manchester Evening News also believe Van Gaal is ready to raid Feyenoord as he aims to rebuild the squad.

    Meanwhile, the Daily Mail insist Hull City could be a possible destination for Rio Ferdinand, who has announced he is set to leave Old Trafford this summer.

    Ed Woodward spoke to investors on Thursday, assuring them that United are planning to spend on new signings this summer.

    In quotes carried by the Manchester Evening News, he said he was confident United will challenge for the Premier League title next season.

    And, in another story in the Manchester Evening News, Rio Ferdinand has backed the imminent appointment of Louis van Gaal as David Moyes' successor.

    The Manchester Evening News have reported United's announcement of the signing of 17-year-old Serbian goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic.

    Meanwhile, the Daily Mail believe United are ready to battle Manchester City for French full-back Bacary Sagna, who is available on a free transfer from Arsenal.

    The Daily Express are also reporting United have been put on alert by Antoine Griezmann's revelation he is ready to leave Real Sociedad for a "big club".
