IPL: Team of the Week, Featuring Glenn Maxwell and AB De Villiers
The Indian Premier League (IPL) bandwagon has rolled through another week, with teams up and down India playing a barrage of games as the tournament wears on.
Over the course of the last seven days, players have impressed with bat, ball or both, showing that while cricket is a team sport there is plenty of room for individual talent.
Read on for a best XI of the week in the IPL.
Robin Uthappa: An honorable mention goes to Kolkata opener Robin Uthappa, who has been in good form over the past few days at the top of the order.
Suresh Raina: Chennai Super Kings batsman Suresh Raina also earns himself an honorable mention for an impressive couple of innings that have helped his side enormously.
Rohit Sharma: Finally, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma earns a mention, particularly for his unbeaten 59 against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
1. Dwayne Smith (Chennai Super Kings)
2. Gautam Gambhir (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Alongside Smith comes Kolkata captain Gautam Gambhir, who has looked incredibly impressive in his last couple of games.
Two half-centuries against Delhi and Rajasthan show he is on form at just the right time.
3. Glenn Maxwell (Kings XI Punjab)
4. Shane Watson (Rajasthan Royals)
Below Maxwell comes another Australian, who has made an impact with bat and ball in recent days—Shane Watson for the Rajasthan Royals.
His economical bowling gets him in this team as much as anything, while he has made some decent contributions with the bat, also.
5. AB de Villiers (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
6. David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
In a team dominated by Australians, David Warner also joins at No. 6, having put together some very good recent performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
He may be a little inconsistent at times, but he is clearly a force to be reckoned with in the IPL.
7. Dinesh Karthik (Delhi Daredevils, wk)
Keeping wicket for our best XI is Dinesh Karthik, who has been impressive with bat and gloves despite the struggles of the Delhi Daredevils.
They may not have been particularly successful in 2014, but Karthik is doing a good job at keeping them competitive at least.
8. Rajat Bhatia (Rajasthan Royals)
9. Pravin Tambe (Rajasthan Royals)
Once again looking enormously impressive despite his advancing years, spinner Pravin Tambe has once again been one of the Rajasthan Royals’ most effective bowlers.
He manages to combine consistency with an ability to take regular wickets and is still key for his side.
10. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
11. Sandeep Sharma (Kings XI Punjab)
Youngster Sandeep Sharma has also bowled very well this week, showing he is enormously capable of performing at this level.
His economy rate has remained decent, while his ability to take wickets regularly should not be underestimated.
