The season is closing in on the end and what a fantastic season we've had. Chelsea's hard-earned victory over Manchester United last weekend provided another twist and has set up a truly frantic last couple of weeks of the season.
This season has seen some remarkable performances by some remarkable players. Cristiano Ronaldo exceeded everybody's (probably his own) expectations with the amount of goals he's managed to score.
Fernando Torres provided Liverpool with a much needed 20+ goal striker and Emmanual Adebayor exceeded everybody's expectations too by stepping into Arsenal legend Thierry Henry's shoes.
The PFA award went unsurprisingly to Ronaldo and The Young PFA was awarded to Cesc Fabregas, mostly, for his early season form that saw Arsenal capture top spot and hold on to it for so long.
The PFA team of the year sprang no surprises. It contained three United players (Ferdinand, Vidic, Ronaldo), four Arsenal players (Adebayor, Fabregas, Clichy, Sagna), two Liverpool players (Gerrard, Torres), one Portsmouth player (James) and one Aston Villa player (Young).
However, it has been dominated by players from the top four teams (although it doesn't include any Chelsea players). Players that play fantastic seasons for other teams outside the top four do not get represented and do not get the recognition they should.
Some quick examples are, Santa Cruz at Blackburn who has now scored 17 league goals. Martin Petrov at Manchester City, has been a constant threat to premier league teams with his lightening pace and ability to cross the ball accurately.
Joleon Lescott at Everton has put in proud performances that has seen him get into the England national team. All these players and probably some more have contributed to this fantastic season.
So I would like to pose a question. Who in your view deserves to be in the team of the season apart from the ones that are already in there? and who would you pick as the player of the season of your team?.
I will start by saying the PFA team of the season seems spot on to me, but thats my view.
My team's (Chelsea) player of the season would be a choice between Joe Cole or Salomon Kalou. Joe Cole slightly edges it for me.

I'll go with Cuellar at Rangers...immense.
As for England....I'll leave that to the supporters...

Thanks Andrew. Cuellar has been incredible this season. Shame about the handball sending off recently. Is the league now in Celtic's hands, since you lost to 'em twice??

We 5 points behind with 3 games in hand...must be ours surely.

My EPL team of the season would be:
James
Sagna
Ferdinand
Lescott
Evra
Valencia
Gerrard
Essien
Young
Ronaldo
Torres
Player of the year for my team Liverpool - Fernando Torres
Player of the year for my team Peterborough United - Aaron Mclean (33 goals and counting!)

Valencia? I havent seen or heard an awful lot about him but i did hear Man United were after him? is he that good?

Well whenever I watch Wigan play he is their stand-out performer by far. A good old fashioned right winger, quick, great feet, who just wants to get to the by-line and threaten the full-back. At just 22, I would rate him as every bit as good as Ashley Young, and he has already played in a World Cup.
I would take him over Pennant any day of the week, and if rumours are to be believed a move to either Manchester United or Liverpool is a possibility this summer.

haha well i dont rate Pennant either but lets hope he continues that way and I might notice him some day..

Most City supporters would quickly answer Richard Dunne, but I'd go with Martin Petrov or Elano. All three have had their ups and downs, but City without Petrov and Elano have been much worse than City without Dunne.

Ditto mate. I'd probably give it to Petrov but as an outsider I probably know less than you....

Definitely Joleon Lescott for me. For my team, Man Utd, I'd say Ronaldo. Amazing amount of goals, Vidic a close second.

Lescott for the team of the season? You definetely have a point there....

Joe Cole, Ballack has been immense this season, but good ole Joey has been the spark for us this season.

A tie between Lescott and Carsley for me. Lescott's been getting all the attention for the goals that he's knocked in but Carsley has been as solid as a rock in the Everton defense. He isn't afraid of having a crack or two at the net either!
from 5 months ago
Yeah but Lescott has gotta be Everton's player of the season for me. He's added so much more to his game than just defending this season....

Arteta/Bentley/Nolan..the so called under dogs could have gotten in a PFA place...
Player of the Year for Manchester United-Cristiano Ronaldo
Player of the Year for Bury FC-Brian Barry Murphy
from 5 months ago
Bury FC huh? thats a surprise but good on you supporting the little boys...
I have really liked watching David Bentley, and I think Green of West Ham is superb.
from 5 months ago
What team do you support and who do you think was the player of season for that team...

Newcastle player of the season would have to be Habib Beye,
from 5 months ago
Not Owen? Im surprised Chris.....

Owen was woeful in the early stages of the season, whereas Beye has been consistently good throughout a miserable campaign.

if flamini wasn't going to leave at the end of the season id say him, but seeing as he is... Adebayor!
from 5 months ago
Haha surely you cant base your decision on the fact that Flamini let Arsenal, can you?
Newcastle, erm... Outside the obvious Michael Owen, James Milner was a stand out performer before he got injured.
And the mighty Hereford United - 1st it was Lionel Ainsworth, then he went to Watford, then Sherjill McDonald, but he went back to West Brom, so gotta be happy with Ben Smiths contributions!
